RangÄ™ of Expressions

SUBTLE EXPRESSIONS

if expressions must be obvious and unambiguous, where does that leave u$ with the morÄ™ subtle expres-sions, which after all are probably morÄ™ useful than extreme ones?

The face on Touchstone, Fig. 112, is my interpreta-tion of the Shakespearean character — a court jester who is intelligent, witty, somewhat cynical and jaded, but basically generous.

With such a complex character, the expressions must be complex and subtle, and if it is ambiguous, well that is the naturÄ™ of the character. Notice also ;he slightly smug smile on the face of Merlin, Fig. 113, and that in contrast to the face in Fig. 64, the eyebrows are raised appropriately for the smile. This creates a rather bland, unworried and nonchalant ook which we tend to associate with someone who !$ rather pleased with themselves.
