English method (yarn in the right hond)

In purl stitch the yarn is held at the front of the work (the side facing you) and is madę up of four steps.

j INTRODUCING PURL STITCH

You may find purl stitch a littlc hardcr to leam than knit stitch.

But really it is just thc reverse of a knit stitch. If you puried every row, you would produce gartcr stitch (thc same as if you knitted cvery row). It is not often that you will work every row in purl stitch; it is casier and faster to knit every row if you want gartcr stitch.

1 Hołd the needle with the cast on    2 Pass the yarn over and around the

stitches in your left hand. and insert the    right-hand needle.

right-hand needle into the front of the stitch from right to left.

GETTING STARTED

3 Puli the new loop on the nght-hand 4 Slip the stitch off the left-hand needle through the stitch on the left- needle. One stitch is completed. hand needle.

To continue...

Repeat these four steps for each stitch on the left-hand needle. Ali the stitches on the left-hand needle will be transfemed to the right-hand needle where the new purl row is formed. At the end of the row. swap the needle with the stitches into your left hand and the empty needle into your nght hand. and work the next row in the same way.
