Once you have a finished Błock for your bodice and sleeve, it is best to plan your doublet or kirtle and then proceed to an appropriate outer garment.
Patterns in the book are examples based on two individuals whose Blocks are shown in Figs 16 & 18, and are given as a guide to making your own. They are shown at a scalę of 1:5 throughout. Błock outlines are shown with a fine linę, and patterns adapted from them with a heavy one. Instructions assume the usual rangę of adult sizes, but smaller increases may be needed for children, and greater ones for unusually large figures.
To adapt your Błock follow the guidelines outlined below and in Figs 25-27. Start with the Front and Back body, including hip sections or skirts; then the neckline or collar, folłowed by sleeves and any other parts. Some may reąuire simple geometrie calculations to find the circumference from a radius, or vice versa. Use the formulas:
Circumference = 27t x R, or
R = Circumference -f 2n
R is the radius and n = 3.14 (or 3 approximately).
Seam allowances
Pattern diagrams are shown throughout without seam allowances. You can either draw seam allowances round each pattern piece or leave the patterns net and mark the seam allowances onto the materiał before cutting. The standard allowance is 1.5 cm, but allow extra if you are unsure of the fit. Edges with openings and fastenings may need morę, and hems should have 5 cm allowance.
