that the tapered shank in the present example did not have a distinct purpose - ie some tack-like items may simply be mounts with slightly diffe-rent forms of rivet. Buckie piąte no. 520 has a copper-alloy tack used instead of a rivet. Cf also tin mounts nos. 802 and 1079, which have bent shanks (fig 108).
