Drains - to improve drainage speed and unblock
To keep drains running elear; each week pour 60g/1/2 cup of baking soda down each drain and pour about 225ml/1 cup of vinegar (a bit at a time) down after it. The combination makes lots of fizzy noises and foam. If the drain is running slow, then repeat the process. You can stop adding vinegar when you don't hear any "fizzing" going on in the pipes. Follow this treat-ment with your hottest tapwater and allow it to flow down the drain for a couple of minutes. Regular treatment will keep your drains and pipes running free.
Drains - unblocking
To unclog a drain try a plunger first. and then open the clog by pouring 1 cup of baking soda down the drain followed by 1 cup of vinegar. This mixture will help to open clogs, because when baking soda and vinegar mix they foam and expand, cleaning your drain, and the Chemical reaction can break fatty acids down. Allow a few minutes for the mixture to do its job, then flush with hot water for several minutes. Do not use this method after trying a commercial drain opener because the vinegar can react with the drain opener to create dangerous fumes.
Drains - to freshen
To freshen drains. sprinkle some baking soda down the drain and pour some of your green all purpose cleaner on top. Then turn the water on and let it rinse down. It will deodorize your drain and it will eat things that get stuck in your drain.
Drinking glasses
Occasionally soak drinking glasses in a solution of vinegar and water to really get them clean. It will give them a brilliant sparkle. When a quick dip for crystal glassware is needed. prepare a solution of baking soda in tepid-cool water (I level teaspoon to 1.2ltrs/2 pints) and brush with a soft toothbrush. This solution is very good for glass coffee makers and thermos jugs too.
Food containers
To remove stale smells from food containers, rinse out with hot water and baking soda. If the smell persists, let the Container soak overnight in the baking soda and water mixture.
