SHAWL

SIZE: Aboui 78” on long side and 44” on each short side, including filet bor-der but not fringes. Fringes are about 11 1/2” long.

MATERIALS : Fingering yarn. 6 1/2 (50 g or 1 3/4 oz) balls, white. Steel crochet hook US size 2. Sewing needle.

TO MAKE - SHAWL : Following Detail diagram and starting at corner, ch 9. Row / : Work 1 dc in 6th st from hook, then 2 ch, sk 2 sts, 1 dc in next st (om formed), 2 ch, 1 dc in same st as last dc; ch 5, turn. Row 2 : Work dc over first dc of prev row, 3 om, end with 2 ch and 1 dc in same sp as last dc; ch 5, tum. Rows 3-67 : Cont working in same manner, inc on each side of each row. Aft er complet-ing row 67, fasten ofT.

EDGING: Starting at end of one short side, attach thread with s! st. Row l : Ch 1, sc across both short sides; tum. Row 2 : Rep (5 ch, sk 5 sc. sc in ncxt sc) across, but inc 1 ch lp in beg, in corner and at end of row. Fasten ofT.

FILETBORDER: Work in om and sm, inc (this will be part of long side of shawl) and dcc (to miler for corner) as shown in diagram. Each band has 12 squares worked in sm. Make 2 bands. After both bands are completed, sew mitered ends together. Work 2 rows Edging (see above) across inner edges of bands, joining border edging to shawl edging on row 2 as follows: °2 ch, sl st in center st of correspond-ing ch lp of shawl edging, 2 ch, sk 5 sc, sc in next sc, rep from ⁰ across. Fasten off.

FRINGES:Cut yarn in 23 1/2” lengths. Take 10 strands, fold in two, and knot one fringe in every other om along outer edges of filet border.

FINISHING : Work 1 row in sc across long side of shawl.
