CYLINDER HEAD/VALVE

NOTĘ

•    If both the front and rear camshafts were removed, start the installation with front cylinder as described below.

•    The camshafts are identified by marks on their flanges: "F": Front cylinder camshaft

"R": Rear cylinder camshaft

FRONT CYLINDER

NOTĘ

• If the rear cylinder has not been serviced, remove the rear cylinder head cover and check the rear cylinder camshaft position as follows:

Remove the timing hole cap, turn the crankshaft counter clockwise and align the "RT" mark on the flywheel with the index mark on the right crankcase cover, then check the identification mark on the camshaft flange.

If the "R" mark on the camshaft flange faces up, turn the cranckshaft counter clockwise 488° (1-1/3 turns) and begin installation of the front camshaft.

If the "R" mark faces down (cannot be seen), turn the crankshaft counter clockwise 128° (1/3 turns! and begin installation.

Align the "FT" mark on the flywheel with the index mark on the right crankcase cover.

Lubricate the camshaft journal surfaces of the clyinder head with molybdenum disulfide grease.

Install the camshaft on the cylinder head through the cam chain and install the cam sprocket on the camshaft with the timing marks <index lines) facing the outside.

Place the camshaft on its correct position with the "F" mark on the flange facing up.

Align the timing marks (index lines) on the cam sprocket with the top of the cylinder head and place the cam chain on the sprocket.

Install the cam sprocket on the camshaft flange and recheck that the timing marks (index lines) align with the top of the cylinder head.

Align the cam sprocket bolt holes in the cam sprocket and camshaft, install and tighten the cam sprocket bolt.

TOROUE: 23 N-m (2.3 kg-m, 17 ft-lb)

Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise 360° and install the other sprocket bolt.

After installing the front cylinder camshaft turn the crankshaft counterclockwise 592° (approximately 1-2/3 turns) and align the "RT” mark with the index mark on the timing hole, then install the rear cylinder camshaft using the same procedurę as for the front cylinder.
