SECTION IX.

FOR WOMEN TOO LARGE AROUND THE HIPS OR OVER THE ABDOMEN.

The Excrciser is attached to the wali in the usual mann er.

1.    Begin the exereises while seated on a stool or chair without a back, but with the back to the machinę. Assumc a correct sitting position, the hcad erect, the chest arched. With the arms in bend position, (See Fig. 54) the handles in the liands and the cords running back over the shoulders. begin by bcnding the body well forward and downward ; keep the chest arched. Take tltis exercise until slightly fatigued.

2.    With the body and arms in the same relative position, turn the right side to the Exerciscr and take the bending mo-tion to the left. This will bring the muscłes on the left side inio action.

3.    Turn the left side to the Exerciser and bend to the right.

4.    Tura the back to the Excrcis*r, hokl the artus shouldcr high to the side and swing them forward to the “ reach ” position. (See Fig. 56.)

5.    With back to the Exerciser and the arms in “ stretch ” position (F'ig. 55) swing them to “ reach ” position (F'ig. 56.)

6.    While standing and with the arms extended to the side, rolate or twist the ttunk from right to left.

7.    Stand with the right side to the Exerdser, arms in

Notę:—When taking exercise Nos. 4 and 5, keep the arms straigbt. Take, aiso, excrcises from 1 to 5 while standing.
