Performance of Drills and Exercises to Prepare for Emergency Situations
1.	Purpose
	In emergency situations there is usually no time to spend thinking about what actions to carry out or to read up in the emergency response manual. Therefore reactions to emergency situations are drilled / practiced.
	The training aim is achieved when the staff on board and in the emergency response centre fully master the emergency response plan actions, and are familiarised with the emergency equipment.
2.	Application
	This Documented Procedure applies to the Shorebased Organisation and on all ships managed / operated by Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG.
3.	Definitions and Abbreviations (refer to VA-001)

4.	Responsibilities
	The shipboard management, especially the master, are responsible for the performance of emergency response exercises on board.
	The Designated Person is responsible for the performance of emergency exercises in the emergency response centre.
5.	Description of Routines
	Taking national and international regulations especially SOLAS into account, as well as Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG's emergency response plans, checklists for the ships and the shorebased organisation have been worked out. These checklists contain the type of drill to be performed, their frequency and the participants. By entering the date of the last drill the dates can be supervised. The shipboard management organises the execution of the checklist valid for the ship. The Designated Person organises the execution of the checklist valid for the emergency response centre. Drills between ship and emergency response centre will be agreed by the ship with the emergency control centre. Emergency response drills taking place by reason of an external inspection (e.g. See-BG, PSC, etc.) also count. Whenever possible a final debriefing answering remaining questions and for manoeuvre criticisms is an integral part of every emergency response drill.

6.3	Remarks
	The frequency given in the checklists is in any event the minimum to be performed. If the crew does not fully master the emergency response procedures, then the drills are accordingly to be more frequent. The manoeuvres to be performed before sailing after a crew change, in accordance with SOLAS, are not affected by this.
7.	Documentation
	The performance of emergency response drills is documented by entries in the deck log book / emergency log. When due emergency response drills were not performed, this will likewise be entered in the deck log book with explanation. In order to supervise deadlines the date of the last performance is entered on the valid checklist.
