The Field Information Node (PWI) shelter is a functional and technical element of
a communications network being a part of tactical and operational levels command posts.
The shelter is used for establishing local computer networks at a command post. It provides
data exchange among functional officers at command posts of Polish Armed Forces as well as
with other NATO armies.
COMPONENTS OF THE SHELTER
The shelter is based on the STAR-944DK vehicle, already
used in the Armed Forces, and the AKS-10B1 container.
The vehicle is certified by the JCW at WITPIS. The con-
tainer is certified by both the JCW at WITPIS and by MCI.
The power generating units and equipment necessary for
operation of the shelter is transported by the D-662 single-
axle trailer.

• Four LANBOXes.
The LANBOXes (intelligent hubs) are intended for creating a LAN network using the capability
of remoting them into four functional centres of command posts. They can be operated in vari-
ous climatic environments.
FUNCTIONAL CAPABILITIES
• Deploying a field computer network (LAN) at a command post;
• Managing users of the computer network of the command post;
• Managing electronic mail functionality;
• Data registry;
• Co-operation through a field or permanent communications system, with a wide data ex-
change network (WAN);
• Co-operation, through a field or permanent communications system, with NATO secure
communications systems.
