1. PROJECT'S STRUCTURE

The folder

RENDER

contains the ready to render

composition. Before render it (Menu Composition / Add to
render Queue), you will have to customize media
placeholders and edit texts placeholders.

The

MEDIA

folder includes all the used media placeholders in

this project. The subfolder "

Media Comps

" includes different

comps corresponding each to one of the media placeholders.

ASEETS

folder includes the elements used in different scenes

of the project. One subfolder contains the SoundsFX, another
includes the Music Track....

There are seven SCENE xx folders. Each of them includes the
different elements (media [as photos: picture with a thin
(horizontal) rectangular frame or as dias: media with a
rectangular (vertical) frame; these dias comps. are smaller
than the photos comps. For each Photo Comp there is a Text

placeholder located in the TEXTS subfolder of the concerned

SCENE. You will have to edit these texts placeholders in the various TEXTS subfolders. For each dia
Comp. there is a text legend layer in the dia comp. itself. You will have to edit this test also. Several
SCENE xx folders contains also a subfolder "

MEDIAS

". In this one, there are the media and their

respective layout, which are displayed in the concerned SCENE.

2. PROJECT'S CONTENT

This project is divided into seven different SCENE; each scene is a part of the global animation. Each
Scene displays several texts placeholders and (eventually: Scene 02, Scene 03, Scene 04 and Scene
05) also several media placeholders (as Photo Comp or Dia Comp). The Scene 04 uses media as Films
Comps: they are composition where media are located before an old pellicule element.

The Scenes 01, 06 and the Scene End displays only texts placeholders.

IN most of the compositions of this project, a common "color code" for different types of layers is
applied:

GREEN LAYERS

: layers used as revealer for the below layer with an Alpha (Track Matte Property):

CYAN LAYERS

are commonly the main media layers (there are often children layers parented to

them, and used as shadows by example). These children layers are

BLUE LAYERS

.

PURPLE LAYERS

: concern Layers with TEXTS PLACEHOLDERS (see Above picture)

PRESETS LAYERS (see below) are commonly

ORANGE LAYERS

.

3. TEXTS PLACEHOLDERS EDITION

As explained before, there are different types of texts placeholders. Each PHOTO COMP owns its
own Text placeholder into a specific composition

Commonly, these texts are animated. Be attentive to the timeline's markers notes (to find the best
location on the timeline to edit these texts layers). Simply open one of these Texts compositions
(located in the TEXTS subfolder of each SCENE) and use the TYPE TOOL to edit the different text
layers of the composition. Repeat this process for each Text placeholder of each Scene.

. These TEXTS Placeholders specific compositions

are always located in the TEXTS subfolder of the concerned SCENE.

For the DIA MEDIA COMPS. the text layer (to edit) is present in the DIA Media composition. These
DIA Media Comps. are located into the MEDIAS subfolder of each SCENE

The two Film Media Comps. (only present in the Scene 04)

. Simply open each of these

DIa Media Comps. and use the TYPE TOOL to edit the text legend layer. Commonly these texts layers
are not animated.

group several Media Placeholders into a

single composition. But each of these media owns its specific TEXT Placeholder Comp

. located into

the TEXTS subfolder of the concerned SCENE. Edit these Texts Placeholders by following the same
process as for the Texts Placeholders of the Photo Media Comps (above).

4.MEDIA REPLACEMENT

Initially I used two kinds of pictures for this project: horizontal (paysage / landscape) pictures with
800 pixels width and 600 pixels height and vertical (portrait) pictures with 600 pixels width and 800
pixels height.

The easiest way to customize this project is to resize your own pictures according to the following
table, before media replacement.

Thank's to the tables (above) you will be able to prepare easily your different media files before
replacing the media placeholders in this project.

Remember: the media used as PHOTO Media Comp are displayed in bigger format and the media
used in DIA Media Comps are displayed in a smaller format. Media concerned by the Film Media
Comps (Scene 04) are displayed into an intermediate format.

TAKE A LOOK AT THE VIDEO TUTORIAL REPLACING MEDIA

8

ALBUM MEMORIES OLD FILM LOOK HELP FILE

Once you prepared your own media files, you are now able to replace the different media
placeholders of this project. All these media placeholders are located into the MEDIA folder.

Procedure:

-1- Select one media placeholder in the MEDIA folder and use MENU FILE / REPLACE FOOTAGE / FILE.
Select your file to replace the concerned media placeholder (into the browsing dialog box).

-2- If you used media with different size / dimensions (see above tables), you will have to open (just
after each media placeholder replacement) the corresponding composition into the folder MEDIA /
Media COMPS. So, you will be able to adjust scale or position properties of the media layer in this
comps. These Media COMPS are used in the whole project as base elements. Adjusting position
and/or scale properties (to cover all the composition area) with the media layer is important and will
make easier the following customization steps for you.

-3- Each media placeholder has a corresponding composition in the SCENE / MEDIA subfolder for the
Scene where this media is displayed. There are Photo Media Comps, Dia Media Comps and Film
Media Comps. After each media placeholder replacement, open the corresponding composition into
the MEDIA subfolder of the concerned Scene and adjust Scale, Position properties. You will
eventually have to edit the mask of the media layer (specially for the DIA Media Comps).

To edit a layer mask, simply select the layer, hit M (or MM) on the keyboard (to reveal the mask(s) od
the layer and the properties of this(these) mask(s).

Select the mask to edit ant use the keyboard Shorcut CTRL T to be able to edit the mask. When a
mask is ready to be edited, little handles appear on the mask. Use simply your mouse cursor to edit
the mask. When you keep the CTRL and SHIFT keys pressed the modification will be proportional for
the different sides. Once a mask is selected and ready to be edited, you can move it using the arrows
of the keyboard.

If you prefer delete the existing mask, simply select the desired mask and hit the DELETE key on the
keyboard.

To create a new mask, be sure to having selected the concerned layer, and use the Rectangle tool or
the Pen tool to build a new mask of this layer.

Read also the following lines about selecting masks:

Select masks in the Timeline panel

1. Click the right arrow next to a layer name to expand it.
2. Click the right arrow next to the Masks heading to expand it, revealing all masks on that

layer.

3. Do any of the following:

To select one mask, click its name.

To select a contiguous range of masks, Shift-click the names of the first and last masks
in the range.

To select discontiguous masks together, Ctrl-click (Windows) or Command-click (Mac
OS) the names of any masks you want to include.

Note: You can select only whole masks in the Timeline panel. To select individual vertices on a mask,
use the Composition or Layer panel.

PLEASE, LOOK AT THE VIDEO TUTORIAL "MEDIA MASKS" about this subject.

5.USING THE PRESETS COMPOSITIONS

In this project there are five types of PRESETS. They are located in the
PRESETS folder. These presets allow you to very easily modify the applied
effects for an defined element (PHOTOS, DIAS, BG...) in the whole project.

Each PRESET Composition includes several predefined presets layers.
Commonly, a single preset layer is set to VISIBLE in each preset composition
(others are set to HIDDEN :: Use the"Little Eye" Icon to HIDE OR SHOW a layer. They are adjustement
layers. A such layer set to hidden means that it won't be used when the concerned preset
composition will be applied .

IN each PREST Comp. there are also media (photos, dias..) layers. You can use them to help you to
make your choice between the different present presets layers. Of course, to see in real time these
changes, you have to set to VISIBLE these media layers (commonly lower layers in the list).

Once your choice is made, be sure to SET TO HIDE the media layer(s)....

background image

10

ALBUM MEMORIES OLD FILM LOOK HELP FILE

The above picture shows the PHOTO PRESET Composition. We can see this comp includes six
different presets layers (layer 01 to layer 06). Only the preset layer (PRESET PHOTO F) is selected, the
others are hidden.

When you set the media layers (layer 07 to layer 09 in this case) you will get the real time preview for
this preset applied to several Media Photo Comps.

background image

11

ALBUM MEMORIES OLD FILM LOOK HELP FILE

If you decide to use another preset layer (by example the PHOTO PRESET D), set this layer to VISIBLE
and set the before visible layer (Layer 01) to hidden. You will get this:

You could also use several presets one over another. By example with the presets layers E, B and A
active, you will get this:

background image

12

ALBUM MEMORIES OLD FILM LOOK HELP FILE

The order of the applied presets layer can have an impact on the global look. Test different layers
orders when you want to use several presets layers.

Don't forget, when you made your choice, to HIDE the lower media layers (in this case layers 06 to
08). If you forget this, the preset will show these media in all the comps where this preset will be
applied....

If you prefer to use no one preset layer, simply HIDE ALL these presets layers in a defined preset
composition.

May be,you will get this preset comp applied in some compositions and not applied in other
compositions. In this case, you will have to open all the different compositions located in the
ELEMENTS subfolder of each Scene. So you will be able to set the Preset composition to HIDDEN
when you wan not to apply this one in this comp. For the composition in which you want apply the
concerned preset composition, simply let the preset layer active (enabled) in the concerned comp.

These explanations could seem to you long and complex. Just test during a few minutes the different
possibilities. A such system give you an quasi infinite number of possibilities, a very easy way to
harmonize the applied effect for a precise element in the whole project, with only a few clicks....

I think you will enjoy this high settings content system. Let me know by dropping to me a message
