Letters of complaint
Dear Sir or Madam,
I am writing to you about the party we held at Queen's Hotel on Saturday 16th September. I have a number of complaints.
First of all, we booked dinner for 8 p.m, but our table was not ready until 9 pm. Then when we sit down for the meal, we discovered that there was only a fish salad available, although you had promised there would be a choice. Moreover, the room was tiny, and stuffy.
As for the disco, we had to wait until 11 p.m. for it to start because the disc jokey was late. Most of us were so dissapointed that they left the party, so the atmosphere was miserable.
I hope you will agree that it was a very disappointing evening. I would be grateful if you could send my friends an apology, and refund at least part of the cost of the meal.
I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
XYZ

Dear Sir/ Madam,
I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the prize I recently won in Your competition. After opening “The Language- learner's pack” I found several problems.
The first problem was a poor picture quality of the travel video. When I turned on the video I was quite surprised and disappointed that it was in black and white and the picture wasn't still but rather shaky and weird. I also found out that one of the audio cassettes is broken. Another problem is, that Your advertisement stated that textbook is included in the prize, but unfortunately there was no textbook enclosed. But the most visible problem about my prize was, that instead of English package I requested, the Russian one was sent to me.
Naturally, I tried to phone the major office a couple times, to report faults of “The Language- learner's pack”, but there was no-one to answer my phone calls. Finally, when a office worker picked up the phone, she was rude and unfriendly, and said there is nothing she could do about my problem and that I shouldn't waste her valuable time on such a stupid things.
I am not satisfied with the prize nor with the service I received. I look forward to hearing from you in your earliest convenience to offer me a complete refund. I hope I will not be forced to take further actions.
Yours faithfully,
Peter Smith

Dear Mr. Brown
I am writing to express my strong dissatisfaction with the responsibility of the teachers at your school. I have sent my children to your school because of the school's respectable reputaton. I am really disapointed to inform you that I have noticed that the children are often left unattended.
The children at your school are usually alone during the breaks. What is more and unacceptable they are left alone sometimes also during the classes- I was told about this problem by my son. He is now in his third year. I really do not think that teenages should be left without care when teacher go for a meeting or conference. Muggles often occure between boys during this time and there is nobody to react. Children are afraid to tell about the problem even their parents.
I have seen many times children running through corridors without anyone taking care of them and intervention have still not been taken. In my opinon teachers leaving children unattended are irresponsible and should not work at school. It is essential to feel comfort, when children are at school, they are safe, instead of it I feel worried all the time.
There is also one thing that i want to mention. My son told me that geography teacher is often absent and the programm of education is not carried properly. The school year is in the middle and they haven't covered first 5 lessons. I find it unacceptable as I pay a lot for the education of my son. It is also unacceptable for the school with this reputation.
As a mother I feel obliged to inform you about this situation and trust this matter will receive your immediate attention.
Your sincerely,
You recently saw a television commercial promoting a new computer game, Death Mission 2. It featured scenes of extreme and graphic violence. It was shown at 6 o'clock in the evening and was aimed at children. You think the game is unsuitable for children because it makes violence look attractive. Write to the television company explaining why the commercial should not be shown (give AT LEAST three reasons).
