Assessing the need for control and restraint
All the staff including the prison officers, they are told not to use force unless this is the last resort. The prison officers are told loads of different techniques to restrain the prisoners in the case of them kicking off or making trouble. The techniques used vary greatly depending on the prisoner, their behavior and the overall situations. The prison officer if he has to use a force to restrain the prisoner, he needs to assess how much of the force is needed. The officer can use the force but he needs to make sure that he doesn’t use more force than needed as then they could get put on disciplinary action or they might even lose their job due to the fact that they have used more force than necessary.
