MICROTEACHING PLAN
Level: upper-intermediate Age of students: 17 Date: 7.12.2010
Topic: Crime and punishment.
1. Pre-reading:
a short discussion about crime and punishment in general, e.g. the teacher asks the students what types of punishment they know,
the teacher shows the students three pictures presenting different offences,
the students try to guess what crimes are presented and think what punishment would be appropriate in these situations.
2. While-reading:
the students are given handouts with a text `Making the Punishment Fit the Crime' about creative punishment,
they are asked to read quickly through the first three paragraphs and say what sentence the judge gave for the crimes discussed earlier,
the students read the article again and answer two comprehension questions.
3. Post-reading:
the teacher asks the students what they think about the judge's system of punishment,
the students are given three examples of different crimes and are supposed to write a few sentences about what creative punishment they would choose for them if they were the judge,
the teacher tells the students what the judge's sentence was.
