MICROTEACHING

Topic: Excuses

Pre-reading:

• a short introduction to the topic of excuses, teacher is asking questions about students' real life situations

• the teacher shows different pictures of situations in which people often want to explain themselves

• the students think about possible excuses or guess what would be the possible title for some of the pictures

• teacher elicits and gives some new words/phrases which collocate with excuses on board

While-reading:

• the students are given handouts with short, unfinished stories and are asked to come up with possible endings and be creative

• the students are asked to have a look at the second half of the handouts and choose the right excuse for each situation and then compare the answers in pairs

• students read their answers and choose pictures from the board which would illustrate them

Post-reading:

• the teacher asks the students what they think about explaining oneself

• short discussion to remember the most important collocations

• the students are given four school situations and are asked to write at home as creative excuses as they can come up with
