Topic: Excuses
Pre-reading:
a short introduction to the topic of excuses, teacher is asking questions about students' real life situations
the teacher shows different pictures of situations in which people often want to explain themselves
the students think about possible excuses or guess what would be the possible title for some of the pictures
teacher elicits and gives some new words/phrases which collocate with excuses on board
While-reading:
the students are given handouts with short, unfinished stories and are asked to come up with possible endings and be creative
the students are asked to have a look at the second half of the handouts and choose the right excuse for each situation and then compare the answers in pairs
students read their answers and choose pictures from the board which would illustrate them
Post-reading:
the teacher asks the students what they think about explaining oneself
short discussion to remember the most important collocations
the students are given four school situations and are asked to write at home as creative excuses as they can come up with
