Music lovers were angry yesterday after queuing for hours for Kirkstall music festival tickets. 1____ However, to see their favourite music bands, fans have to buy tickets a month earlier.
Every year there are complaints because of the unusual method of selling tickets only from the concert hall. Tickets go on sale in May and there are limited numbers. Unless you are prepared to queue, you won't get a ticket. As a result, some music fans start queuing days in advance. Many fans bring tents and food and transform the city centre into a party. 2____ This noise, along with the mess, makes them unpopular with local residents.
We spoke to some of the fans in the queue yesterday. Mark from Rochdale said, `I came here yesterday. I've been queuing for over sixteen hours. If they only sell tickets from one place, obviously people will queue overnight. Unfortunately for people who live here, this might create noise problems.' Shona from Liverpool added, `If they sold tickets online, we wouldn't have to queue, and that would be better for local people.
3____ It can be a lot of fun. It's a great way to meet new people.' Not everyone was happy though. Henry from Durham said, `I arrived first thing this morning. If I don't get a ticket, I won't come again next year. The weather is really hot and uncomfortable. Maybe if it were cooler, I wouldn't mind but this is terrible.'
4 ____ John Smith, the festival director, said, `If we sold tickets over the Internet, people who don't have a computer or who can't pay by credit card would complain. It's impossible to please everybody. I think if people stopped complaining and instead tried to make new friends, this would make the experience more pleasant for everybody.'
a) The fans, however, are extremely noisy.
b) They are just horrible.
c) Festival organisers responded to complaints from music fans.
d) The festival takes place in June.
