Colors Inside and Out
Skills: Color Recognition, Explorution Activity:
Gather sevcral different types of fresh fruils and vegctable& and have the children explore them lo see which are the same color on the inside as they are on the outside. Before you cut open each food, have the children predict whether the inside will be the same color as the outside. Once the fruils and \egctables have all bcon exp)orcd, have the children use the food cards from pages 44-47 to sort those that are the same color inside and out from those that arc not.
Pizza Sorting
Skills: Food Recognition, Classification Activily:
Cut a 12'* ch*cle from white felt. Glue an 11" red felt circle to the center of the white circle lo make a felt pizza. Photocopy the page 59 and GO Pizza '[bpping pattems onto colo red construction-paper, putting each pattern onto the appropriate color ©f paper. Attach each piece to a piece of tell and place it
onto the felt pizza. _____
Explain that pizza* contain ilcms from -
sevcrai of the USDA food categories and review the categories with student*. I^et children take turns removing and replacing the topping pieces from the felt pizza, naming the foods, then naming the categories in which the foods belong. When everyone has had a chance to work with the pizza and its loppings, allow the children to name other food ilcms they might like to try on a pizza.
