Tenho aqui os sapatos. I have the shoes here.

Ai “there” refers to something near the person spoken to:

(O) que tem (o senhor) af ? What do you have

there?

Cd “here” expresses motion toward the speaker: Venha cś!    Come here!

Ali“there” refers to something away from both:

£les vem dali.    They’re coming from

over there.

La “there” refers to something morę remote:

£łe ficou Iś no norte. He stayed there in the

north.

{Acola is used in sonie areas).

Notę: Por aqui means “this way” or “through here”; por ali means “that way” or “through there”:

Passe por aqui.	Go this way.
3. Near and Far
Perto daqui.	Near here.
Muito perto.	Very near.
Perto da cidade.	Near the city.
Perto do parque.	Near the park.
Ao lado da igreja.	Next to the church.
£ longe?	Is it far?
£ longe daqni?	Isitfarfromhere?
£ muito longe.	It is very far.
