PROJECTS
The projects given in this book usc the tcchniqucs described in thc carlier sections. Fuli instructions arc givcn to creatc cach itcni and thc introduction to cach project refcrs you back to any spcciflc tcchniąues uscd to creatc it. If a stitch patiem or motif forms part of the design you will find references to the Stitch library or the Motif scction and suggcstions are given for when you can substitute an alternative pattem or design to the one used.
The yams spccified are widely availablc in yarn shops, by mail order or front the internet. If the rccommcndcd yarn is unavailable thcn a substitute yarn of the same thickncss or weight can be uscd. The replacemcnt yarn must knit up to the same gauge (tension) and this inforniation can be found on the bali band.
Substituting yarns
Ali the information you nced to cakulate yam amounts is on the yam‘s bali band.To work out how much replaccment yam you nced follow these simple steps.
1 Take the number of balls of the rccommcndcd yam from the Materials section of the pattem and multiply them by the number of yards/metres per bali. For example. 10x13Aoz (50g) balls of worsted (DK) 100% cotton yam - 125yd/115m per bali would give a total length of 10 x I25yd = I250yd (10 x I I5m = 1150m).
2 Look at the bali band of the replacement yam to find the number of yards/metres per 124oz (50g). For cxample. I54yd/I40m.
3 Divide the total length required by the length of the replacement bali to give the number of balls of replacement yam nccdcd. For examp!e 1250yd +
154 = 8.1 (1150m + 140 = 8.2) rounded up to 9 balls.
If the project uses morę than one colour yam. repeat these steps for each colour.
