SHORT ROW CUSHION


Knittcd in a luxurious mullicolourcd silk yam tłiis elegant cushion has V-shapcd points which aro worked individually along one row ofknitting. Each point is finished with a pair of beads and the rows arc set alternately to give a tiled effect. The finished cushion is unusual and givcs practise in the technique of kniiting short rows (sec page 44).

Cushion measures I Sin (38cm) square

you will need

MATERIALS

Sport (4ply) weight silk yam:

2 x 124oz/50g skeins in shades of blue

Fabric for back of cushion

I Sin (38cm) square cushion pad

36 large beads and 72 smali beads in shades of blue and green

NEEDLES

Size 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles

Gauge (Tension)

26 sts and 32 rows to 4in (lOcm) measuned over stockinette (stocking) stitch on size 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles

Row I 1*14 and tum. FRONT_

Using size 3 (3.25mm/UKIO) needles. east on 07 sts and work 16 rows in st st. beg with a k row.

** Work a row of 6 points as follows:

K20 and tum. make a point, (k33 and tum. make a point) 4 tintes. k20 (end of row).

Working aeross all sts. work 13 rows in st st. beg willi a p row.

Work a row of 4 points as follows:

K20 and turn. make a point. (k33 and turn. make a point) 3 tintes. k20 (end of row). **

Working aeross all sts. work 13 rows in st st. beg willi a p row. ***

Work front ** to *** 3 times morę. ending willi 5 rows of st st. instead of 13 rows. Bind (east) off.

FINISHING_

Sew all the points elosed at the top hy joining the first and last rows. Błock the front to I5in (38cm) siptare. pulling the points into sliape. To sew on the beads. seeure sirong thread behind the point, put one large head and then iwo smali beads on to the nccdlc. puli the thread through. Take the thread back through the smali head next to the large head and through the large head. Seeure the thread heliind the point. Cut a 17in (4 3etn) siptare front fabric and neaten the edges to prcvent fraying. With KS together. pin the knitting to the fabric. taking care not to streieh the kttiuing. Sew around tltree sides. leasing the bonom edge open. Turn right side out and insert cushion pad.

Sew the bottom scam elosed.
