Abstract: The paper presents the current State of environmental knowledge conceming the area of The Vistula Spit and The Vistula Lagoon, which constitute the Natura 2000 protected area. The paper points at changes in the character of habitats, plant communities and zoocenoses, which undergo metamorphosis due to the development of holiday resorts, recreation-related anthropopressure and economic development of the region. The current threats to the area have been indicated, with the global, local, and anthropogenic factors distinguished.
