Materials: Scraps of fabric with
an oriental look for the outer side
(e.g. from department store) and
doupion silk in a matching color
for lining (Jab); 50 cm (20") golden
cord; beads as desired for the
tassel (Pracht); sewing thread
(Gütermann creativ).

Instructions: Cut out pattern piece.
Cut two pieces each from outer
fabric and lining fabric, each on
straight grain (= arrow).
Lay each outer fabric piece on a

lining piece, right sides facing.

over seams onto outer pieces,
wrong sides facing, matching cut
edges.

along side and base edges as con-
tinuous seam. Finish cut edges
together with zigzag stitching.
Knot ends of golden cord. Zigzag
stitch ends of cord to seam allow-
ances of side seams at upper edge
of bag to form strap. Turn bag
right side out.

Make

beaded

tassel.

Thread

various beads on doubled sewing
thread to make five short strings
of beads. For each string, first
thread all beads (the last bead can
be slightly larger), then run the
thread over the last bead and back
through all other threaded beads.
Leave thread ends hanging to
attach bead strings. Run thread
ends of all bead strings together
through a larger bead to form a
tassel. Use thread ends to sew
tassel to lower point of bag so that
tassel swings freely.
