A Carcassonne Central expansion by Novelty
In good times, when the land breeds plenty, tales of dragons are written off as myths. But during
the hard times, dragons are blamed for all sorts of ills. Men would often erect huge dragon slaying
machines in the countryside in the hopes of being able to brag to their grandchildren about the
success in hunting down the winged terror haunting the skies.

IECES
• 12 new tiles, each with a dragon hunter icon
• 6 black boars
• 6 white sheep
• 6 brown cows
ADDITIONAL RULES
Preparation
This expansion is designed to be played with the dragon from the Princess and Dragon expansion
1
.
The tiles with river segments
2
are designed to be played with the Fishermen fan-made expansion and are thus
shuffled with the other tiles. If playing with the River or River II rules, the tiles with river segments may be shuffled
together with the other river tiles. Remove the tiles with river segments if not playing with any of these expansions.
The tiles with forest segments
3
are designed to be played with the Forests fan-made expansion. Remove these tiles if
the Forests fan-made expansion is not being used.
Shuffle the new tiles with the other tiles.
Each player starts the game with a brown cow and a white sheep. Each player also gets a black boar if the Forest fan-
made expansion is used.
1. Place a tile
The tiles are placed in accordance to the normal rules. Forest segments are placed in accordance with the fan-made
Forests expansion rules.
1
It can also be played with the fan-made Dual Dragon expansion.
2
There are three tiles with river segments. One of these also has forest segments and is only to be used when playing with
both the Forests fan-made expansion and at least one of River, River II or Fishermen expansions.
3
There are four tiles with forest segments. One of these also has forest segments and is only to be used when playing with
both the Forests fan-made expansion and at least one of River, River II or Fishermen expansions.

2. Deploy a follower
Dragon Hunter
When a tile with the dragon hunter icon is placed, followers may be deployed to the tile as usual. A follower can
also be deployed to the tile as a dragon hunter
4
5
6
. The dragon hunter is not considered to be on the farm that the
dragon hunter icon is on
7
, and may be played to the dragon hunter icon eventhough it is surrounded by a farm that
already has a farmer on it
8
. The dragon hunter is placed upright to differentiate it from the farmer.
Sheep, cow or boar
When any tile is played, a player may choose to play the sheep, the cow or the boar
9
. The sheep can only be played
on a road segment of the tile just laid, the cow can be played on a farm segment of the tile just laid, and the boar
can be played in a forest segment of the tile just laid. The sheep or cow or boar can be played to the appropriate
feature on the tile even if another player already has a follower (or sheep or boar or cow
10
) connected to that
feature
11
.
If Blue draws a tile with a farm and connects it to a farm where Red already has a farmer, Blue is
allowed to play his cow to the farm.
The sheep or cow or boar are not followers
12
. A road with a sheep is not considered to be occupied. Neither is a
farm or forest considered to be occupied when there are only cows or boars on them respectively. Any player may
play a follower onto a tile connected to a road or farm or forest with a sheep or cow or boar.
Yellow plays a forest tile and places a boar on it. The forest is unconnected to any other forest.
During Red's turn, Red plays another tile with forests and connects it to the forest with boar that
Yellow played earlier. Red may play a follower to the forest as a woodsman, or a black boar to the
tile just played.
The Dragon
The dragon moves according to the rules from the Princess and the Dragon expansion, with the following addition –
the player moving the dragon must always moves towards the closest
13
sheep or cow or boar
14
. If there is more than
4
Instead of deploying a follower to the tile, or any other equivalent action such as moving the fairy, etc.
5
The tower may capture the dragon hunter if it is in the range of the tower. The dragon hunter is considered to be a
follower and may be removed and exchanged by the relevant tiles from the Catapult. However, a wagon cannot move to
become a dragon hunter.
6
The fairy does not confer any bonus to the dragon hunter. The jester and the minstrel (from the fan-made expansion of the
same name) do not affect the dragon hunter.
7
A magic portal may not be used to deploy a follower as a dragon hunter. Neither can a follower from the city of
Carcassonne be deployed as a dragon hunter.
8
The dragon hunter is not considered to be a farmer and it does not add to the total farmers on a farm. It also does not
participate in the Archery Tournament (from the fan-made Archery Tournament expansion). When a barn is placed on a
farm that surrounds the dragon hunter, the dragon hunter is not removed, as it is not on the farm. The dragon hunter does,
however, contribute to the scoring of the Tithe Barn (from the Apothecaries and Tithes fan-made expansion).
9
Instead of deploying a follower to the tile, or any other equivalent action such as moving the fairy, etc.
10
The sheep may be played to a road that has a Sheriff (from the Prison fan-made expansion) or a Constable (from the
Constable fan-made expansion)
11
A magic portal may not be used to deploy a sheep or cow or boar.
12
The tower may not capture the sheep or cow or boar. A player does not get any extra points if a fairy is in the same tile as
the sheep or cow or boar. The jester and the minstrel (from the fan-made expansion of the same name) does not affect the
dragon hunter. The sheep or cow or boar cannot be removed and exchanged by the relevant tiles from the Catapult.
13
The closest path to the sheep or cow or boar is the shortest distance (least tiles) between the dragon and the respective
sheep or cow or boar counting horizontally, vertically or diagonally (or a mixture of these).

one choice (i.e. where there are more than one closest sheep or cow or boar), the player moving the dragon decides
which of the closest sheep or cow or boar to move towards. When the dragon moves to the tile containing the
sheep, cow or boar, the sheep, cow or boar is immediately removed from the game.
The example shows the sheep to be 2 tiles away (1 diagonal and 1 horizontal) from the
dragon, the cow to be 1 tiles away (1 horizontal) and the boar to be 1 tiles away (1
diagonal). The player moving the dragon may choose to move the dragon towards the boar
(diagonally down-and-right) or the cow (to the right). If the cow and the boar were not
there, then the sheep would be the closest “bait” and the player moving the dragon must
move the dragon towards the sheep, either to the right or diagonally down-and-right)
If the dragon moves to within 2 squares of a dragon hunter, play is immediately halted. If there is a sheep or cow or
boar on the tile that the dragon is on, that sheep or cow or boar is removed from the game. The owner of the
dragon hunter notes the closest sheep or cow or boar
15
. If there are two that are equidistance, the owner states the
one he or she wishes to use to determine success for hunting the dragon. The player then draws 5 tiles from the
supply
16
and note how many tiles contain roads (sheep) or cities (cows) or forests (boars) are drawn. If all 5 tiles
contain the relevant feature, then the dragon is "killed" and moved to the side (it comes back again when the next
volcano tile is drawn). All 5 drawn tiles are reshuffled back into the supply. Play then resumes.
The dragon moves towards the closest “bait”, which is the cow. When the dragon moves 2
squares away from the Dragon hunter, play is halted. Red draws 5 tiles and notes how
many of those tiles contain cities. If all 5 tiles contain cities, the dragon is killed and
removed from the board. If not the game resumes, and the dragon moves again (if there
are any moves left). Reshuffle all the tiles drawn back into the supply.
If the dragon moves to within 1 square of the dragon hunter, play is immediately halted. If there is a sheep or cow
or boar on the tile that the dragon is on, that sheep or cow or boar is removed from the game. The owner of the
dragon hunter notes the closest sheep or cow or boar, etc. as above. The only difference is that instead of drawing 5
tiles though, the player draws 10 and only needs 5 with the correct features shown
17
.
The dragon moves to a tile with a cow. Play is halted, as the dragon is now 1 tile away
from the Red dragon hunter. First, the cow is removed from the game. Then, the closest
“bait” to the dragon hunter is determined; in this case, it is the sheep. Red draws 10 tiles
and notes how many of those tiles contain roads. If at least 5 of those tiles contain roads,
the dragon is killed and removed from the board. If not the game resumes, and the dragon
moves again (if there are any moves left). Reshuffle all the tiles drawn back into the
supply.
If the dragon is in range of more than one player, the player who is closer to the dragon (i.e. 1 square away) goes
first, if there is still a tie, then the player who has the less points goes first, if there is still a tie, then the player next in
line to play after the previous dragon move goes first.
A player may only use one of his dragon hunters after each of the Dragon's "step", even if there are 2 or more of that
player's dragon hunters in range of the dragon. The player is to announce which dragon hunter will be used to
attempt to shoot the dragon. If more than 1 player has a dragon hunter in range, each player's order is determined
by the dragon hunter being used.
The dragon hunter that kills a dragon gets 25 points. The dragon hunter remains on the tile.
If the dragon moves to the square with the dragon hunter, the dragon hunter is killed and returned to the player's
supply.
14
The dragon does not move towards the closest pig (from Traders and Builders) or pig farm.
15
If there are no sheep or cows or boars in play, the dragon cannot be slain by the dragon hunter.
16
If there are insufficient tiles in the supply then the dragon hunter will not be able to kill the dragon.
17
When the dragon is further away, it is harder to shoot at it, hence the requirement that all 5 tiles must contain the relevant
feature. However when the dragon is closer to the dragon hunters it is easier to shoot it down. Again, if there are insufficient
tiles in the supply then the dragon hunter will not be able to kill the dragon.
