PREFACE

his guide is intended to help you quickly adapt to the trade system in the universe of
Star Trek Online (STO). We will explain to you how the economy works and how use it
to your advantage. In this guide, you will find a list of dealers and their offerings so

you will always find everything quickly and save yourself tedious travel times. We will
introduce you to the different kinds of products which you can gain, because it is crucial to
know what the goods are worth before you trade or sell them. In STO, you will learn that
there are not only types things you can buy, but also there are brands . We will tell you how to
use brand names in STO and where you can get it fastest. The economic system of STO is still
very much in its infancy. The developers are still far from finishing STO, believing the game is
still not where it needs to be. Therefore, we are going to keep up with the development for
you and continually update the guide so that you will never miss what happens in STO.. We
wish you great success on your missions in deep space, and may you earn a lot of profit!
Engage.

THE

MONETARY

SYSTEM

he Monetary System of STO can
be compared with almost any
other game. The Federation has

completely established trade in their
sectors, as well as energy credit. Energy
credit is not easy to obtain unless you loot
a defending enemy or by practicing a
profession. This raises the question of how
players can still afford everything. The
answer to this question is trade. The
Federation has no currency (because
money is just lying around in space waiting
to be collected.)) There are four different
ways to pay for things in STO: with either
energy credit, "Explorer badges," merits
or PVP marks may be used to make
purchases. The PVP badges are most
commonly used among the Klingons, but
why this is will be explained to you later.

T

Energy Credit

On your travels through the universe, an

enemy attack will often occur, submersing
you in battle. If you have won a battle on the
ground or in space, your enemies will often
drop items such as weapons or
equipment. These are the items you
can then convert into energy credit. Energy
credits are still in the early stages
of development. For the basic, standard
purchasable items you will need energy
credits. The ships will cost energy
credit. Other items can be run through your
ship's replicator, which is a form of
crafting. The Replicator is available from the
comfort of your ship, so you should never
have inventory problems. However, you
should try not to rely on the replicator, as
profit it can make for you is very smalll.
Instead, it's recommended you bring those
items to people at the stations. You will learn
how to do that in the relevant chapter.

Earnings

In a system without a fixed currency, it

is natural that other possibilities develop to
pay for objects. One of these options is a
"Starfleet merit. “

You get these merits by fulfilling quests.

With these, you can rank up your fellow
bridge officers. You can also use these to
change the ship's name. Below we will
explain briefly how to collect and utilize
merits.

Collecting Merits

The collection of merits begins almost

immediately when you first start the
game. Each quest you complete and any PvP
battle will reward you with merits. On the
battlefields, the amount or merits your
receive heavily depends on how
much success you have in battle. You will
find more detailed descriptions of PvP merits
later on in this guide. Should you want to
save your merits for something big, we
recommend you engage in a few PvP battles.
There, you can not only get a great number
of merits, but you can also save yourself
tedious flight times, searching, and other
struggles you may confront along the path.
You should always PvP before going on

patrolling quest, as PvP is the
most profitable of the two. Since patrolling
quests are not always available, we
alternatively recommend exploration quests.

Merit Onset

At the beginning of the game, your merit

points are primarily there to educate and
train your officers. Merits behave like a
normal currency. They are displayed below
your energy account. Try to pick officers
from the best traders and train them
accordingly. In case you do not have enough
merits, just wait for a while. At first you
hardly need to do anything, because you
have some from the beginning.

THE TRADING

SYSTEM

Dealer

Station Dealers (Credits)

ost any large space station
will take you to these shops.
They offer you weapons,

armor, ship consoles, and much more types
of items for you or your ship. When you
want to know what trader items are in high
demand, look up buy and sell in the
chapters. Depending on where these
vendors are stationed, they will offer
different kinds of products. In the starting
area you will only find launch-support
equipment, and a little slightly-advanced
equipment. For better accessories, you'll
have to fly a little longer. Look here a little
after you check in with the chapter
summaries. Here you can easily find what
Station will have the dealers that you need.

M

Station Dealers (merits)

Dealers you find in the very first station

depend on where you start. They are
especially important for acquiring and
training officers.. The station dealers and
officers training do not change. The officers
you speak to at the first station are also on
Deep Space 9.

Station Dealers (Marks)

The brand dealers are mostly in the

middle and late phases of the game,
considerably. They offer you high-quality
equipment on specific brands. For each
level there is a specific dealer to provide
correspondingly stronger or weaker objects.
Credit distributors are divided into two
areas: the PvP badge dealers and the
acknowledged mark dealers. Each
merchant has different spacecraft
components and ground combat
equipment. The PvP badge dealers can be
found on the Station K7, while exploring
brand dealers are on the earth space
station. Find more information about the
vendors you discover in the relevant
section.

8

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Hawkers (Credits)

Aside from having the vast amount of

vendors in space stations, you still have the
opportunity to do business right in space.
On the fly in warpspace you can see large
cargo and a Ferengi ship in the distance.
You can fly near them and and interact with
their vendor. The Federation Freighter
currently offers less useful items. Most are
things that you need for a pair of quests,
but the Federation transporters' stock is
would still grow in importance if STO
evolved. Should you have the good fortune
and a Ferengi captain you have found in
the universe that is with you, you get the
chance to buy ground weapons that do not
exist in most stations. The strength of
weapons and usefulness of the object
strongly depends on the area. The higher
the average level of the region, the better
goods that can be delivered through a
space merchant's offer.

The Swap Meet

You may also know this as an auction

house. Talong with sales at distributors on
stations and the use of Replicators, you still
have the option to sell your items to other
players. In addition, The Exchange is
available. Here you can match items of any
description to buy and sell. You can easily

search The Exchange with a few button
presses and you're done. This auction
house can be the best place to buy and sell,
especially later on in the game.

A Buying At The Exchange

The swap meet offers many things that

can be very difficult to find. It is therefore
very tempting to buy something to just
simply use it, but when you go, always
assume that the seller has also read this
guide and knows how to properly conduct
their business. We will now give you a few
big tips which you should use if you ever
want to buy something from here.

Think Before You Buy

Before you make a purchase in the

exchange, make sure that you are actually
going to use and need it. At first glance,
many items may seem good and useful, but
may also be very expensive. Let's say that
you purchase something that is only slightly
better than your own equipment. Should
you later find an object whose stats
surpasses that of the item you purchased,
you will be mad at yourself. It is not
guaranteed that you will always purchase a
better item than one you may find.

9

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Before you buy and item with stats,

make sure the stats are better than your
own. In order to know what stats you need,
make sure it's relevant to your class. For
more information about this, check out our
other guides on that topic.

Search for Alternatives

Some items you can find in the swap

meet are also available at some stations.
First, compare prices from the stations
dealers with the prices of The Exchange.
Typically, items are always cheapers in
stations. Do not forget to drop by merchant
ships floating around on the system map.
Ferengis especially offer a lot of weapons
that the stations do not have.

Compare Prices

Do not assume that the first provider in

The Exchange automatically has the lowest
price. Make use of the time and utilize it to
explore all of the rest of the offers. We
often stumble when we see prices that vary
enormously. In order not to fall for an
exorbitant price you must compare,
compare, compare.

Wait

Actual purchases in the swap meet are

only worthwhile after level 45 or if you're a
PvP specialist. Early in the game, it's
difficult to realize whether items will be
easier to purchase in The Exchange or to
find them in your travels. Later on you will
get a new ship and new weapons are made
available, rendering anything you may have
bought earlier in The Exchange useless.
Therefore, it is highly recommended to wait
until level 45 and buy items that you know
would be hard to find. It will not be until
level 45 that you discover what type of
weapon you will want to use long-term.

SELL

We hinted earlier that the recovery of

objects in the Replicator it advisable if your
inventory is full and you therefore feel you
need to leave it behind. The best prices for
these are at their stations. At stations you
can find dealers who offer a wide variety of
goods, like ship weapons, ship consoles, or
supplies. Suppose you find a few disruptor
beams. There are now three different ways
to make them into credit. The first option
would be your replicator. You have to scrap
them there and quickly make space in your
inventory for new objects. Of course, that
may cause huge financial losses on your

10

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

part. The second option would be selling in
The Exchange. How good you do in the
exchange is relative to the appropriate
chapter. The last and often best option is
going to a dealer at one of the stations.
When selling at a station there are a few
things you need to take note of. It is
important to be careful to go to the right
dealer. Disruptor beams you sell at retail of
Spacecraft weapons sold. Always ensure
that you are going to the dealer of the
merchandise, or even a similar offering.
Spaceship weapons go with the dealer for
Spacecraft weapons and ground combat
weapons go with the dealer for ground
combat weapons. It's a very simple
concept. If you comply you can sometimes
earn up to triple the profit. To save time,
we recommend that you also do not take
the long way of going to the dealer when
you only have two or three things to sell.
The more you collect, the more time you
will save before going back to the dealer.

The Power Exhange

Selling top-quality items in The

Exchange will earn you great profit. These
items include special weapons, shields or
other ship accessories. You may find these
items looting ships in space or bodies on
foot. Rare items sale extremely well in The

Exchange. If you find a rare item, it is
highly recommended that you put it into
the swap meet. Rarity is explained in
further detail in its relevant section.

11

STRATEGIES

TO TRADE IN

THE

EXCHANGE

elow we describe two strategies
which will help you earn good
profits.

B

Strategy 1

Based on where you start at the very

beginning of the game, you may have a lot
of weapons and other accessories to buy.
However, the selections there are just a
very small fragment of the equipment
available, and are often spread widely
apart. Go to a station where you can buy
things that do not exist at another station
across the map. Purchase a little of the
product you want to sell and then check the
exchange for the prices it is being sold at.
If there is very little of the product, you can
put your object up at a fairly higher price
than you bought it for for players who are
too lazy to fly across the map to buy it
themselves. The amount of gain for this is
quite small, and finding a buyer is not

always certain. Therefore, your sales would
be best combined with Strategy 2. With
this strategy you can sell DS9 quest items
that are not available elsewhere.

Strategy 2

The second strategy is more profitable

to some, but only feasible if you sell good
items you find in your travels. It's worth it.
Along your way through the game, you are
likely to find a rare weapon that is not
available to buy from a dealer. Before you
place the item in the Exchange, you must
observe a few points:

Competition

It is important that the prices of your

competitors are always on your mind.
Should you offer goods that are more
expensive than your competition, you may
never get rid of them. Set your prices at
whatever is favorable in the Exchange, as
your competitors to, and you will be able to
make the sale. Optimally, it would be
beneficial if you wait until you have no
competition so that more profit may be
earned. More information about this is in
the next point.

12

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Supply and Demand

Sometimes there is a product available

from not just a salesman in The Exchange,
but many others. In this case, of course,
the price is lowered down. If the fall in
prices is too huge, it is adviseable to refrain
from selling. Observe the market, and
observe it closely. Eventually, your
competitors will regain their pace and then
you're back on the train. Market your items
purely for the averge prices your
competitors have taken. If an item you
hold enters a period where it's scarce, then
is the time to sell, sell, sell!

Requirements

Sometimes an object can be extremely

rare, but still have no buyers. It is
important to develop a feel for what the
environment around you requires. If they
do not need your perfect weapon simply
because the nearest dealer sells an a
weapon that is even better, you will
probably not sell your weapon to anyone.
In such cases, it is better to just sell your
item to a dealer.

The Prices of the Station

Dealers

In order to do well in the exchange and

to achieve the highest prodits, it is
important to know the dealers in the area.
Look at how much the dealers charge for
certain items and make sure you sell yours
for a cheaper price. Also observe how
much they would pay for certain items so
you know whether to sell them at the
dealer or The Exchange.

Rarity

Items that are rare should often be sold

through the swap meet.. Most items like
these sell for very high very high profit.
Samples with a low rarity that you do not
need should be brought to the swap meet.
These you can sell at station dealers. You
can find more about rarity in the relevant
section.

Take note these points and you can be a

professional trader in STO.

ABSTRACT

s you can see, profitting is not
done simply with the object in
the replicator in credit change.

If you want to make a fortune, it is
important to think to stay in business.
Always keep in mind the current market,
including both the competition in The
Exchange and the dealers at the stations
you know. You should not use your spare
time trying to fly back to the station for
every little thing. Time is money. If you
can do it in a short time, you'll earn more
credits. Take your time to truly understand
the market of STO. Study different kinds of
object, learn what weapons have special
abilities and which of those to utilize for
your intentions. Only those who know the
products really well can really be
successful.

SHOPPING

Introduction

n STO, you have two different
vendors for goods. Either you buy
from The Exchange or directly from a

merchant. The prices of different dealers
usually aren't so different. The prices in
The Exchange are fundamentally different.
Here you can find just as many bargains as
you can an extortionate price. If you need
articles, it is always advisable to seek
mainly the first station dealers. Flying to
other stations may also be worth it. The
swap meet should be the last selection
because the items that come from dealers
at the swap meet are usually more
expensive.

I

The First Purchases

Once you get to the station for the first

time, you will notice that the dealer has
better arms than the ones that you have.
The first few missions help you begin with
standard equipment. This is usually
because they do not expect you to fight
alone, but to participate in fights with
others. Do the first few missions and loot
every oppoenent possible. When you can

have defeated an enemy there is a yellow
sign highlighted above the body or ship
wreck. Once you've collected enough loot,
sell it to buy better equipment. The
corresponding merchant is in the shipyard
at the top of your base. This is a very
simple concept. The more claims you
make, the higher the value you is of how
many times you've killed. Each fight brings
the chance for new drops. Each drop can in
turn be sold to make profit. These profits
can provide better equipment.

15

THE MARK

SYSTEM

Introduction

nce you have reached level 11,
equipment MK1 and MK2 become
higher value items of interest. In

addition to the normal purchases from
dealers, there is the method by to get a
hold of better itens by spending badges.
Usually, these are the items with bonus
attributes or are particularly strong. For
these higher quality items you need to use
badges. Badges come in one of two types:
PVP badges and Explorer badges. While
the exploration badges are not well
established to date, the PvP badges are.

O

PvP Badges

Introduction

PvP badges are the reward for defeating

enemy players in combat. You can get
them on ground or in space. The Klingons
in particular are dependent on PvP badges.
With their help, you can buy better
equipment. The point of contact for the

Federation is the station K7. There are
traders you sell special equipment for PvP
badges. Should you need more PvP
badges, it is always recommended to join
many PvP queues to increase the chance of
participating in a PvP battle. Standing
around and waiting is not adviseable if
you're in a queue. It would be better to
utilize this time for further exploration into
the far corners of outer space, or emerse
yourself in combat with NPC opponents.
PvP marks form the counterpart to the
adges of exploration. If you want to avoid
PvP, you should read this section. Below
we will give you a brief insight into the PvP
battles.

PvP Skirmishes

In STO you have two ways to participate

in PvP battles. Both in-space and on-
ground combat or commonly occuring
events. There are different PvP skirmishes
with different priorities and tactics needed.
It is recommended that you try out these
skirmishes yourself and see which one you
personally enjoy the most. However, you
should try to make sure that you join a PvP
skirmish where the odds of winning are
always higher than the rate of failures.
Each victory brings extra points.

16

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

PvP skirmishes are divided into different

level areas. The first level field is 1-11.
The second is 12-21. This makes PvP
worthwhile, especially if you play as much
as possible in these areas where levels are
classified. It does not make sense for a
level 11 to engage in fight with a level 12 or
higher, because one will quickly discover
that the high level players have a lot better
gear and have better skills.

Rewards

Rewards are obtained in the form of PvP

marks after each fight. How many brands
one gets is composed of several points.
The most important factor is whether your
team won or lost. The third factor is one's
own success. It is important to get involved
in every crowd and not simply stand around
and leave it to your colleagues. These are
also based on how much damage you dish
out and the quantity of damage received.
When you win a battle, you can gain up to
33 brands. When you lose, you can only
expect up to 18.

PvP Focus

Especially for the Klingons, it is often

important to be as successful as possible
during PvP. Klingons are there to slaughter.
Therefore, it is advisable to join early on a
fleet that has focused on PvP. In a solid

team that denies itself and its own ships
knows and understands that it is possible to
win every battle! Klingons should therefore
accept an urgent group. You will save a lot
of time and incidentally it also makes it
extremely fun with a fixed and established
team to compete. Concentrate on a
battlefield or two so you can get to know
it's characteristic, uses, and use it to
formulate strategies.

Badges of Exploration

It is called a badge of exploration

because you get it by completing
exploration missions. With its help you can
buy equipment and other useful items. The
Badge of exploration are the antithesis of
the PvP brands and offer players who do
not like to compete in PvP the chance to
find good equipment in PvE. For them, you
get weapons and armor for the ground and
space combat. We will be leading you in a
brief introduction to the exploration
missions.

Exploration Missions

In the beginning, you can obtain these

exploration missions from Lieutenant Grall.
One of the first missions is to explore the
Delta Valnis star clusters. Here, you have
to fly into a mist and explore unknown star
systems. In each system, there are new

17

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

missions awaiting you. These can be many
different interpretations. On some missions
you have to prove to others that you have
the ability to perform simple tasks in space
or ground combat. Upon completion of the
mission you will get a reward. Each mission
can often be repeated so you can do it until
your heart is content. Please note that
each mission has a “cooldown” which
means you need to wait a certain period of
time before you can receive them again. A
very interesting fact is that the fact-finding
missions, even if repeated, seem to change
in task. Some of it depends on what time
you arrive. It works, so to speak, at
random. Because of this, your mission is
always varied and never boring.

Rewards

The rewards for exploration missions will

be paid to you in brands, named
Exploration brands. Each mission rewards
75 brands. The brands that you get to have
are again at different ranks. Depending on
what mission you were on, it changes the
resulting mark. Later, if you take up some
serious exploration missions you will
automatically get an increase in the ranks
of marks. If you have collected enough,
you can look at one of the many brand
dealers of your choice and desire an
exchange. You can use the different
brands at different dealers in The

Exchange. You can not mix the brands
between them. Some things you always
need to pay for with a certain mark. Should
you not find the right dealer, look to the
dealer overview for information. It will save
you a lot of time of searching.

Mission Tips

As mentioned above, there are several

missions that one can find on an
exploration mission. When flying into an
unknown system, you will have a random
mission assigned. If you are only there for
quick marks to collect, there are tactics on
how to end the missions quickly. You need
to pay attention to the specific missions
you get. While the mission you get is a
coincedince, there are sometimes certain
factors that influence it a little. The
moment you come through in the random
system, take a guess at what you think
you're about to do. We'll spare you four
examples and their present rating based on
their usefulness.

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

The Planet Aid

Should you come into a system and you

will you are needed in order to aid the
planet, turn around and warp right back
out. This type of order sometimes takes
long flight times. The planet will ask that
you deliver something to them. Then you'd
have to go back and buy something and
return back to the planet. Conclusion:
takes too long, gives so little.

Gather the Data

If you receive the task that asks you to

gather data, you were lucky. Here, you
only have to scan anomalies five times.
You will also usually receive scientific
samples that you may use any way you
like. Conclusion: you get scientific samples
and don't spend a lot of time there. Very
good!

Conflicts

Some missions will get you in firefights

on the ground or in space. Take advantage
of these to gain additional skill points.
Conclusion: Random drops, average to
lengthy term, fine variety.

Explore Planets

In fact-finding missions you must beam

to the planet and find a few samples to
scan. In addition to the “Gather Data”
missions, this kind of mission is the fastest.
However, you never know what to expect
on the planet. If your quest is only to scan,
it goes by fast. But if a couple of Klingons

DEEP SPACE

ENCOUNTER

Introduction

n the so-called “Deepspace
Encounter,” you will find a very rare
opportunity to receive rare items.

You'll find the “Deepspace Encounter”
anywhere in the system map. If you do
decide to fly, you'll automatically be
assigned to a group and the battle begins.
You will be here, together with your group
to take on waves of enemies and destroy
ships

I

Special Reward

It is possible in such a confrontation with

a blue object to fly home. Especially
Tactical ships will probably have the good
fortune to do this often, because they cause
the most damage. After stopping the
slaughter, the top 5 damage-dealers will be
distributed items relatively. The first gets a
blue object. If you have an Escort ship and
do decent damage, regular visit in these
instances can pay quite a bit. Blue items
can not only be sold, but can also be used
very well!

No Offense to Other Classes

But currently we only advise Escort

players to participate in these actions.
Since the Escort Class is the only ship that
can carry the heaviest weapons and with
their combined firepower, the enemy may
be very difficult to approach do to its high
damage. However, if you're just wanting to
have fun and explore other ship classes,
you may want to give it a try.

CRAFTING

SYSTEM

Introduction

n itself, there are only limited
powers STO possible to craft. You
have the opportunity to improve on

the collection of certain objects that you
have. In the beginning, you will only have
the ability to access very faint object.
However, if you take enough samples to the
first dealer, he will refer you to other
retailers fast. These offer you higher
quality goods. How useful the crafting
system is is still quite undecided. We will
tell the benefits of it as soon as it is
possible to tell. Then we can scope for you
the higher quality dealers.

I

Ending Thoughts

The process of crafting is quite simple.

On many planets and in many systems,
while exploring, you may find sogenante
anomalies. Even on ships and bases, they
can be found. By pressing the V key (by
default controls) you can activate your
scanner if you are next to an anomaly. This
can easily scan and collect them. The
collected results are then objects in your

inventory. What kinds of objects there are
will be enumerated to you later on. To save
inventory space, it is recommended you
bring items into your bank. The dealers in
Memory Alpha will automatically access
your bank specialist, if you have the goods
to exchange.

Exchange

The bartering of objects is a bit more

complicated. The port for this is mostly
Memory Alpha, which is in the Memory
Alpha Sector Alpha Centauri block. The
contact is Commander Jenna Romaine.
First you've got to consider what things you
are offered there. You gotta buy this now
and then submit the required samples for
Jenna Romaine. Then you get the improved
version of the bartered goods.

Earn With Crafting

The direct earning of energy is not

possible, but crafting provides one other
way to earn energy. Attempts at crafting
any item at the beginning ensures you will
find use for it. Once you have achieved a
high level, visit a craftsman so he can
procure for you an overview of all objects
that are needed in crafting. You can then
collect and sell these items at the swap
meet.

ARTICLES

Inroduction

n STO, there are different kinds of
objects. Many do not differ in only
benefits but also in rarity and value.

This chapter will give you an insight into
what areas of the objects of STO divide and
what you can plan for a financial value of
such items. Knowing what articles are for
and understanding how to work with them
is a basic prerequisite for a good bargain.

I

First, we begin to classify the objects

into categories. Thereafter we talk about
the rarity and value.

Object Types

Take advantage of all the objects that

can be divided in two very broad
categories. One of the items are available
on the ground and the second type is
usable in space. It is important that what
you do with objects in STO in order to
understand how individual assets are of
great importance. We will now introduce to
you the various categories of goods and
teach you the basic things you need to
know

Kits

Kits give your character special abilities.

They are one of the most important objects
needed to form a character. They are the
basis of your ground-based skills. A
technician then receives, for example,
towers to set up and a tactician can make
bombs. Kits are of fundamental value
produces the most valuable items in the
whole land-based universe.

Ranged

Ranged weapons are the basic

equipment for every good soldier. There
are different types of ranged weapons.
From phaser to disruptor beam everything
is represented, which brings weapons with
unique abilities.

Melee Weapons

Melee weapons are very powerful and at

the same time very risky. Klingons
especially love to fight man to man.

23

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Shields

Not only do they protect your spacecraft

spacecraft, but they also protect your
person. They are used to absorb damage
and protect you from a ranged enemy
attack. The valuable shields are mostly still
equipped with additional capabilities.

Body Armor

Body armor is the last line of defense

between you and enemy fire. They bear
different resistances and bonuses, which
allow your character to special and improve
more in certain areas.

Devices

Equipment would help you in the

struggle to regenerate or to strengthen you
for a short time.

Regenerative Devices

They are found very often and you can

never have enough of them. One of the
main ones that you will use in battle is the
hypo spray.

Space Weapons

Weapons can be found in every form

and for any purpose. They are one of the
most coveted items on the ship. Everyone
would prefer the best and strongest
weapons. Precisely for this reason in them
they have enormous potential. Weapons
can be divided into many subcategories.
For example, Plasma weapons cause the
most damage. Phasers are the best
weapon to eliminate the enemy's
subsystems. In the chapter on arms, we
have a detailed explanation of the different
types of ways to sell your weapons. Look in
the relevant section for more information.

Space Shields

Shields are a key component in addition

to the weapons your ship has. Especially
Cruiser captains, who have the ability to
take vast amounts of damage, are looking
for better shields to face the growing
challenges that await them. Mastered
shields are available in various shapes with
different priorities.

24

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Deflectors

Deflectors are used in general to

enhance certain features of a vessel. They
enhance the peformance of the tractor
beam. Depending on what values they
have, they reinforce a different subsystem
of the ship. Deflectors Complement each
other often, especially with the capabilities
of your officers.

Consoles

Consoles support various level of their

own ship. What values support always
depends on what console you have just
installed.

Devices

Devices offer the possibility, for

example, for the energy of a ship to
recharge faster for a short time. There are
little useful powerups for which various
systems place onto a ship for a short time
frame.

MK levels

All weapons, shields, and deflectors fall

into MK levels. The Mark Level of each
object affects its usability. Until level 11
you will be with MT1-MK2 objects work.

Level 11 have until MK4. Each stage of MK,
of course, increases the value of the object.
If you've reached level 11, it will hardly be
worth selling MK2 or lower objects to other
players.

TYPES OF
WEAPONS

Introduction

t is important that you learn about
the different types of weapons that
are available in STO. Only when you

understand what the weapons are will you
understand what you need and who the
right customers are for your goods. In
addition, it adds an important advantage
for your own effectiveness when you are
equipped with the right weapons.

I

Beam Weapons

Beam weapons are usually found on

cruisers and science vessels. They have
the best shot angle and are therefore best
suited to ships to which maneuverability is
lacking. You'll find them in two different
copies. Either as an array or as a bank.
Banks cause significantly more damage
than arrays, but also on a good shot angle.
The less contact the ship's experience, the
more you may want an array. Beam
weapons may have different types. These
various types also apply to other types of
weapons, so we will approach that later.

Cannons

Guns are the strongest, based on energy

weapons. They consume enormous energy.
An enourmous hinder on cannons are their
narrow shot range. This type of weapon is
specially for Escort ships. Other vessels are
generally lacking the ability to even use
these weapons. Guns are available in
normal and heavy parts. Guns should
never be combined with too many heavy
guns, as they all share a cooldown. But
combined with normal guns, they are very
deadly.

Towers

Towers are among the most vulnerable

to energy weapons. Therefore, they have
but one full angle shot and are therefor
constantly on fire. Ships that are extremely
unmaneuvarable benefit from towers. The
Escort, which the enemy always has before
him, can also exacerbate the damage to
the front with back towers equipped.
Towers are strong when combined with
other weapons, however the energy
consumption of towers may cause one to
reconsider before equipping.

26

background image

TYPES OF
WEAPONS

Phaser

hasers are particularly most
common in the early stages.
Their damage output under the

beam weapons is rather small, but they are
especially well suited to the enemy with
their subsystems off. There is a chance it
can completely eliminate a shield. For
example, it is possible to take the shield
down from the enemy for a short period
time. Combined with torpedos, you'll have
such a good strategy with high damage
output. They are pretty good for solo
players.

P

Disruptor Beam

Disruptor beams cause more damage

than the phaser can, temporarily hindering
the opponent. Your phasers are your first
alternative. Not much more can be said
about the disruptor beams other than the
fact that they are the Phaser's counterpart.

Plasma

Plasma weapons are very powerful

weapons which create a hard shell. They
are a great way to quickly destroy the
enemy's hull and cause the most damage
to the hull. They allow plasma fire that hurt
the enemy ship over a period of time. This
also works through the enemy's round
shields. Plasma weapons are very strong
against shields.

Tetryon

Tetryon beams are the counterpart of

the plasma weapons. The enemy's hull
damage is average. However, they are
very effective against enemy shields. You
can temporarily bring the enemy shields
offline to attract and retain the well bottom.
Coupled with a few torpedos, they are very
dangerous.

Torpedos and Mines

Torpedos make up where the majority of

beam weapons, cannons, and towers lack.
This does so much damage to the hull
unlike any other weapon. We'll introduce
the various types to you now. Any
description, specific causation can be easily
transferred to mines. Only these are not:

27

Speed possess
Photon torpedos

Photon Torpedoes

Photon torpedoes are the first available

torpedos. They are especially good at the
beginning because of their fast speed and
good damage effects. You do not need a
long time to recharge. Torpedoes align
very little against shields.

Quantum Torpedoes

Quantum torpedoes are the second

stage of torpedoes. They do not have a
significantly greater damage potential than
photon torpedoes. However, they BIISEN a
lot and the charging time is longer. This
gives the enemy shiels a chance to
regenerate before the torpedo embarks.
The quantum torpedoes are very limited to
only shields.

Plasma Torpedoes

Plasma torpedoes are like all the phaser

weapons. They have a great average
damage hit, but the plasma can trigger fires
and damage the opponent further. It's a
very good effect against hulls. Like all
torpedoes, plasma torpedoes have the
ability to be fired a special way with the
corresponding Officer. Most of the

torpedoes become bigger and it is possible
to fire several. The plasma torpedo,
however, can not do any of those. It does,
however, turn into a slow but very powerful
torpedo. This is, however, easily detected
by enemy weapons. Enemies will generally
destroy the heavy torpedo.

SCARCITY OF

GOODS

Introdution

bjects can be classified into
various categories of rarity.
Each identifies the object with

an unusual color. Below you will find a
small overview.

O

Rarity Color

Uncommon Green

Rare Blue

Very Rare Purple

Trade In Rare Goods

Depending on how rare an item is, you

may get more credit for it. Perticularly
whorthwile trade is highlighted with
opposite colors blue andlila. Green objects
allow even trade, but is not very profitable.
To get blue and purple items, you ought to
pay attention to fleet operations to always
be right in the middle, doing as much
damage as you can and Cruisers should

tolerate as much damage as they can.
High stakes in the battle increases the
chance of a drop for you and the chance of
a drop for you.

Finding rare objects

White and green objects in the category

are normally found in your travels as well
as killing opponents. Green items are not
as easily found as white items, since the
probability is lower. In addition, you get
both types as quest rewards. Blue and
purple items ar every rare and therefore
difficult to find. Blue items drop very rare
in a fight, but they are often available as a
quest reward. The odds for purple objects
that drop are practically nothing. These
you only get from a brand or quests. One
way to blue and green HERANZUKOMMEN
objects are the Deep Space Encounter.
However, one should therefor make a lot of
damage. Alternatively, they are available
through quests and redeeming brands.

Rare Demand

As already mentioned in another

chapter, the need is an important factor for
the pricing in STO. The demand for all
goods used in Memory Alpha needed for
crafting are especially high. The required
phaser banks and other objects are more
than green in its rarity, but with their high

29

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

needs, it is possible to sell them for much
higher prices than comparable objects.
Hence, it is worthwhile to fly to Memory
Alpha and learn about objects.

Rare Officers

The color of objects can also be applied

to the officers. There are Officers that are
freely available and can be bought again at
the dealer and are Officers that are rare.
Rare officers, for the most part, are
available through the levels of your
character. They are assigned to you as a
reward by Starfleet. Currently, that in
addition to purchasing is the only possibility
to obtain rare officers. Rare officers usually
bring with them significant benefits. They
have m uch higher skills than other officers.
Their skills often have even higher ranks to
buy.

THE

ECONOMY OF

THE KLINGON

Introduction

t the beginning of the game
you have no other choice but
to create a Federation

character. However, once you reach level
6 you gain the ability to create a Klingon
counterpart. We recommend, however,
that you keep playing as the initial
Federation character because it is
important to know and understand the
game well to be successful as a Klingon;
and here is why. The Klingons have a
different emphasis in its economy. Energy
credits with them are less important than
they are in the Federation.

A

The Differences

At the beginning of your journey as a

Klingon, you will have the same monetary
forms as your Federation character, In the
first three levels you will also hardly notice
a difference. But when you get to level 11
you will find that you and your energy

credits can hardly make as much as you
were accustomed to. With the Klingons,
you're in a group based on almost exclusive
PvP action. Cryptik has announced a
complement for the Klingons PvE elements,
but when this happens is unknown.
Therefore, you should consider carefully
whether a Klingon is right for you. With
Klingons, there is no exploration or
branding system. PvP marks are the main
currency. To gain PvP marks you must
participate in PvP, which in the Klingon
perspective, is virtually all there is to do.
Almost every dealer you meet will sell their
equipment for PvP marks. Therefore it is
highly important that when you PvP, you
win. Otherwise, you will remain poor.
There is mor information about PvP marks
in the appropriate section.

Energy Credits

You do no go entirely without energy

credits. Little things like sprays and hypo
and other passive equipment continue to
be subject to the energy credits. Your
earnings will normally allow you to be able
to invest in your officers. Energy Credits
and achievements you gain will also come
from PvP battles. There are a few other
options.

CRYPTIK

POINTS

Introduction

long with the many ways to pay
for things in the universe of
Star Trek Online, there is the

possibility to make purchases with Cryptik
points. We will dish out only the most
necessary information available to five,
since it is only a passive feature. Cryptik
Points require you to spend REAL currency
at the Star Trek Online website.
Alternatively, you can participate in surveys
of Cryptik or for example a special edition
of Star Trek Online that you purchased.
Cryptik points are used to unlock special
features and objects in the C-Store. These
are not weapons that make you particularly
strong, but more for flare. For example, you
can avtivate the Ferengi as a playable race
if you are willing to spend enough Cryptik
points. The C-store still stands pretty thin.
It is not yet completed so Cryptik still has
things to add.

A

Cryptik Store Offers

The Federation Cryptik Store offers

players the chance to unlock two new
playable races. You may choose from the
Klingons and the Ferengi. Other races are
planned.

TIPS AND

TRICKS

Introduction

n the following section, we will guide
you through the various sections of
levels and give you advice and

support so that your account is never
empty in your travels as you quickly come
to your destinations and take your place as
one of the best captains in space. In
addition, we will give you insider tips that
we have personally tested.

I

PvP Levels You Fast

Assuming you are not spending too long

in queues, you can get the quicket PvP
brands, credit, earnings, and skill points
from PvP. Make sure you choose the PvP
battles that do not last too long. Make sure
you're always in the middle of battle so that
your activity is properly considered highly.
That way, you can get the most rewards at
the end of the battle.

PvP Leveling Alternatives

In case you do not like PvP at all, you

should be at the very beginning of sector
patrolling focus. There are good finds in
many sectors, and they are definitely worth
doing to get good equipment. It's also a
great way to get that marks you need, as
well as items for The Exchange. If the fact-
finding missions have their cooldown this is
the perfect one to do in between.

Level 1-5

When you start the game, your energy

account is empty, your ship is bad, you are
moderately equipped and do well in ground
combat. Embark to Commander Akira Zulu
and take the first quests. The first
equipment you find you should not sell, but
create yourself. This is important so that
your ship upgrades as much as possible.
You should then find things you already
have or do not need and sell them. For
more information about what you need, go
to the relevant chapter. With the acception
of new missions in the eighth top their
rewards. When you finish them, you get
new Bridge Officers. If you have all three,
concentrate on the extra rewards next. A
mission where you get equipment as a
reward is generally more profitable so you
not only get financial rewards in the form of

33

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

merit and energy credits, but also an object
which you can sell. Should you need the
object, then naturally you should keep it.
The more missions you complete, the more
your accounts will grow.

Level 5-10

Until level 11, it is usually not necessary

to spend a lot of money. Should you want
to spend some money, look at nice
equipment for your ship from dealers. If
you find weapons, compare them carefully
with the ones you have. The officers
already wear your weapons and share them
if necessary. In the phase up to level 11,
patrolling quests are the most profitable
ones. Here you will receive credit
experience and different rewards for each
completed section when you exit the entire
quest.

Level 11

Congratulations! At level 11 you now

get your first real Class ship. Luckily, you
get a coupon for your first ship, so the price
is reduced to almost zero. Each addition
ship would cost about 20k credit, which is
why you should wisely choose that ship you
want to continue your travels with. By level
11 you also have the possibility to use new
equipment. In the auction house you will
find many things which you could not equip
earlier. Should you decide to purchase new

equipment, always remember that the
objects may be too expensive. Assistance
with purchasing at the auction house is
available in the appropriate chapter.Level
11 offers you a very special advantage.
You will now be the top of the level
restriction in battlefields since the first
order goes from level 1-11. Level 11 is
seeming like the perfect time to collect PvP
marks. By level 12 it wil be difficult again.
Therefore collecting a few brands before
reaching level 12 is difficult.

Level 12-19

Slowly, the missions are becoming more

exciting and larger. They become more
interesting as you are sent to be
slaughtered (as you do in one of the
quests.) Slowly, you will notice that you
hardly know where to begin. You will be
rewarded very good items in PvP and PvE.
You will likely be well-equipped. Although
you may be overloaded with things to do,
do not stress about getting it all done.
Remember that your focus should be on
having fun. Don't worry about it, the items
are coming ;)

34

background image

The Unofficial Star Trek Online Credits Guide

Level 19-?

It will seem that the quest givers have

no quests for you anymore. These gaps
you close with the best PvP or
reconnaissance missions. Once you reach a
new level, you will unlock new quests.
Moreover, the opponents are beginning to
be very challenging. Try it yourself and
play your specialized well-equipped class
character.
