Monster spotted on local lake

0x01 graphic

The small town of Slodale was surprised after a man claimed he had spotted a monster on a nearby lake. Mr Pontic said he was fishing yesterday when he saw a shape in the water. At first he thought it must be another boat as the lake is popular with fishermen but, when he looked more closely, he said he saw a head and a tail in the water.

Mr Pontic told us, `I sailed towards it because I wanted to be sure of what I had seen. It was a kind of lake monster I think. I must have disturbed it because it started to swim away quickly. It could swim very fast and it must have been very big because its movements made big waves.

I'm sure it wasn't a fish as it was far too big.' Mr Pontic rang the local police who were surprised. No mysterious creatures have ever been reported on this lake so the police think that Pontic probably saw an unusually large fish.

Some people in the town believe that a monster could live in the lake. Local fisherman Ted Ferey said, `This is an ancient lake and it is very deep. It's possible that there are monsters in it.'

Other people have suggested that the creature could have been a dolphin which had swum up the river from the ocean. One local man said, `We are not that far from the ocean so a dolphin could have come up the river and got trapped in the lake.' However, Jeff Osler, a local scientist, believes this is unlikely as the river is too shallow for a dolphin to swim up.

1 Usually there are a lot of boats on the lake. _____

2 Mr Pontic thinks the creature isn't very big or fast. _____

3 Mr Pontic is the first person in Slodale who saw a mysterious creature in the lake. _____

4 A local fisherman thinks that Mr Pontic could have seen a monster. _____

5 It is a widespread opinion in the town that the lake is inhabited by a monster. _____

6 According to the police, the river isn't deep enough for dolphins. _____
