A: Hello, Susie. You look at bit down in the dumps. What's the matter?
S: Oh, I'm feeling a bit down. I've just had my hair done. I was thrilled, but my children didn't like it. What do you think?
A: Oh, I love it. It's very, er, blonde.
S: It's not only that though. My kids are really getting on my nerves. Teenagers, huh? I can't seem to do anything right. I've taken care of them all these years, tidying up, looking after them. And what do I get in return? And then today, my boss asked someone else to go to a meeting in Paris, and asked me to stay here and write a thirty-page report. Paris! Life's not fair!
A: But look on the bright side. These are supposed to be the best days of your life. Your kids are old enough to take care of themselves. You haven't got any debts. You've got a great job. Roger's a great husband. And you look fabulous! Stop wasting time worrying about things you can't change, like your boss.
S: If I had enough money, I'd go away for a weekend break with Roger, but we've just bought a computer for the kids. They spend all day on that thing, not talking to anyone. I wish we'd never bought it.
A: You need to look after yourself for a change, Susie. Go and get your hair done. Oh, I forgot. You've just had it done.
S: And another thing, I always wear the same old boring clothes. I need a wardrobe makeover. I haven't bought any new clothes for ages. Do you want to come shopping with me at the weekend?
A: Yeah. Hey, why don't we make a whole day of it and go up to London on the train?
S: And let's have lunch at that fancy new fish restaurant by the river. Oh, yes. Shopping and a fabulous lunch. I feel better already. It's so nice to have someone like you, who I can talk about my problems with.
A: You can always talk to me, you know.
S: Oh, thanks, Angie. You're a real friend.
