Track 16: Listening Test for Review B
[E = Ellie; C = Callum]
E: Hi, Callum.
C: Oh, hi, Ellie. Aren't you going out tonight?
E: Well, I'm supposed to be going to the cinema, but Phil hasn't arrived to pick me up yet. What's going on? Are you OK? What a mess! The kitchen looks terrible ...
C: I'm having a dinner party tonight. I'm meeting Monica's parents for the first time. They're arriving at eight.
E: That's in half an hour!
C: I know that! Oh, why didn't I just go out and buy some ready-made food instead of trying to cook it myself?
E: Er, what is that exactly, Callum?
C: Shepherd's pie.
E: Oh, I didn't know shepherd's pie looked like that ...
C: Yes, I think it might be a bit overcooked.
E: Are you making a dessert?
C: Yes, crème caramel. I have to put it in the fridge before they get here. I really want to make a good impression. Monica's dad used to be a chef, and her mum's really fussy about food. I've got so much to do that I'm not going to be ready in time.
E: OK. Calm down. Why don't you sort out that pie, and get the dessert ready. I'll tidy up this mess. And don't you need to change your clothes? You've got pie all over your shirt.
C: Oh, no! I'll go and do that right now. Thanks, Ellie. I'm going to need all the help I can get tonight.
E: And you shouldn't worry about the pie. If you give them a nice glass of wine before dinner, they won't notice the food is burnt.
