Track 8
Steve: Where are you going on holiday this summer, Jill? You usually go to the mountains, don't you?
Jill: Yes, we do, but my brother has recently fallen off his bike and hurt himself badly. So we can't go climbing or mountain biking. We might go to Paris instead, which is great because I've never been there. How about you, Steve? Any plans?
Steve: Oh, yes. Definitely not a big city. I can't stand sightseeing, … too many people. I'm going camping with three of my friends. We all love it.
Jill: It won't be much fun if it rains all the time.
Steve: Oh no. That won't be a problem for us. We always have good tents and waterproof jackets.
Diana: So you're leaving on Friday afternoon, Robert?
Robert: Yes, but don't worry. I'll only be away for ten days. And I'll be in touch, I promise.
Diana: But please, don't just send me a postcard with `Greetings from Barcelona'. You always do that but it's not enough. I want to know everything: where you are, what you're doing, who …
Robert: OK, OK. But I won't write a letter. You know how I hate writing.
Diana: Do you think you'll be able to send me a short email?
Robert: I'm not sure. I might not have easy access to a computer. But I'll text you as soon as I get there, all right?
Diana: OK. You and your mobile phone, you can't live without it, can you?
Dad: Beth, we need to think about Mum's birthday. I was thinking of buying her something nice to wear. What do you think?
Beth: Well, she loves clothes, but isn't that what you always get her, Dad? And you can easily choose a wrong size. Remember last year? The leather jacket you bought her was beautiful but she had to go back to the shop and they didn't have a smaller size.
Dad: That's true. But yesterday I saw this very nice woollen jumper. I'm sure she'll like it.
Beth: What colour was it?
Dad: Blue. Her favourite colour, isn't it?
Beth: Yes, but she already has a blue jumper. She needs something green now.
Dad: They didn't have it in green.
Beth: How about getting her a watch? A gold one. It's her fortieth birthday after all.
Dad: Good idea, Beth. We'll get that then.
