Sophie: M E U N I E R.
Policeman: OK, thank you, Sophie. So you're here in Bournemouth on holiday?
Sophie: Yes. I came to learn English for the summer.
Policeman: And you're staying with a host family?
Sophie: Yes, Mr and Mrs Perkins. The address is thirty-five West Way.
Policeman: That's thirty-five West Way, Bournemouth.
Sophie: That's correct.
Policeman: And your telephone number?
Sophie: My mobile, is: 78209208816
Policeman: That's 78209208816
Sophie: That's right.
Policeman: OK, Sophie. So your handbag was stolen.
Sophie: Yes, it was a small leather handbag. Really pretty.
Policeman: And what colour was it?
Sophie: Black. I only bought it two weeks ago.
Policeman: And what did you have in it?
Sophie: Let me see, my student ID, about thirty pounds and … a bus season ticket.
Policeman: Right. Now, you say that it was stolen in the shopping centre in Castle Lane. And what time was it?
Sophie: Well, it was after lunch time. I had something to eat with my friend and then we decided to do some more shopping. So it was … about 1.30, I think.
Policeman: And did you see who stole it?
Sophie: Yes. It was a man in his thirties, I think.
Policeman: And what did he look like?
Sophie: He was an ordinary-looking man, quite tall and slim, with short dark hair. He was wearing jeans and a yellow T- shirt. No, it was not yellow. I think it was orange. Orange or yellow …
Policeman: OK, Sophie. I've got all the details now. And I've got your address and telephone number. We'll contact you as soon as we know something.
Sophie: Thank you very much.

Robert: Robert Macloughlin.
Policeman: Robert M A C …

Policeman: L O U G H L I N?
Robert: That's correct.
Policeman: And your address?

Policeman: And what's his address?
Robert: One hundred and fifty-five, Charminster Road.
Policeman: Hold on a second. One hundred and fifty-five, Charminster Road. And his telephone number?
Robert: 0202523009
Policeman: Let me just read it back to you: 0202523009. Right?
Robert: Yes, that's right.
Policeman: So, Robert. Yesterday you saw the man we're looking for. When and where exactly was it?
Robert: It was in Castle Point shopping centre, outside the bank. My friend and I were just walking past when we saw this strange-looking man running very quickly.
Policeman: And what time was it, do you remember?
Robert: It was after one, I think. Yes, we got home at two. So it was between one and two p.m.
Policeman: Did you see the moment when the man stole something?
Robert: No, actually I didn't. I saw a young girl and a man but not very clearly. You see, they were quite far away. But I saw when the first man passed something to our man and he started running very quickly in my direction.
Policeman: Aha, so you saw two men? Can you tell me more about the one that you saw very clearly - the one that ran towards you? How old was he, do you think? And what did he look like?
Robert: He wasn't very young - in his fifties, I think. And he was quite short and overweight. I remember his face, I saw it very clearly for a moment, it was round and, oh, yes - he had a big scar on his face!
Policeman: And what about his hair?
Robert: Oh yes, I remember he was bald.
Policeman: And what was he wearing?
Robert: Just an ordinary black woollen jumper and jeans, but I didn't notice the colour of those. And one more thing …
Policeman: What's that?
Robert: He was carrying a big plastic bag.
Policeman: Now, can you tell me a bit more about …
