Track 3
Dialogue 1
Mrs Evans: Morning Karen.
Karen: Good morning Mrs Evans.
Mrs Evans: Are you ready to start?
Karen: I suppose so. What do you want me to do?
Mrs Evans: OK. Well, I'd like you to come at eight o'clock every Saturday morning.
Karen: Do I have to bring anything with me?
Mrs Evans: No, don't worry about that. You don't have to bring anything. All the detergent, cleaning liquids and equipment are here. I think you'd better wear old clothes, though, so you don't get dirty.
Karen: Oh. I don't like getting dirty. What do I have to do when I'm here?
Mrs Evans: Well, firstly you have to clean and vacuum the floor. You must use this special liquid to clean the floor.
Karen: Special liquid, right.
Mrs Evans: Do you want this job Karen?
Karen: Yes, I suppose so.
Mrs Evans: Right, then you have to wash the dishes and clean the bathroom and the kitchen, and you shouldn't break anything.
Karen: OK. I'll try not to. I hope I don't have to iron clothes too. I hate ironing.
Mrs Evans: No, you don't have to iron, and you mustn't touch these silver plates. They're very expensive.
Dialogue 2
Mr Stevens: Hello Mathew, welcome. It's nice to see you're early on your first day.
Mathew: Yes, I'm so glad to be here. I didn't want to be late.
Mr Stevens: That's good because you mustn't be late. We open at nine o'clock and you have to be here for that time.
Mathew: OK, no problem. So what do I have to do?
Mr Stevens: Well, first of all you have to wear this shirt and tie. All the shop assistants must look smart.
Mathew: Great! What else do I have to do?
Mr Stevens: Right, well, you need to serve the customers and you have to help them to find what they need. Oh, and please remember you must always be polite.
Mathew: I understand. Is that everything?
Mr Stevens: No, not quite. When the shop is quiet, you should make sure that all the shelves are full and the shop is tidy.
Mathew: Do you mean I have to clean up?
Mr Stevens: No, you don't have to clean. We have a cleaner for that but you need to keep the shop tidy.
Mathew: Oh, I see. Brilliant.
Mr Stevens: Oh and, of course, smoking is not allowed in the shop so don't let any of the customers smoke, please. And one last thing, the shop closes at five o'clock and you mustn't forget to switch off the lights before you leave. That's all. You'd better get changed. The shop will open in five minutes.
Mathew: Great, I can't wait to start!
Dialogue 3
Mrs Williams: Evening June.
June: Hello Mrs Williams.
Mrs Williams: Right, this is Michael and this is Thomas.
June: Right, erm ... hello.
Mrs Williams: Now, I'm glad you've come early because there are quite a few things I need to explain before I go out.
June: OK. Go ahead. I hope it's not difficult.
Mrs Williams: Well, firstly, you have to make sure that they don't watch too much TV and don't let them eat chocolate either. They will ask you so don't forget.
June: Oh dear, I'll try.
Mrs Williams: Please make sure they're in bed before eight o'clock. That's a house rule and it's very important. And you have to give them a snack before bedtime too. It helps them sleep.
June: Erm … Do I have to cook something? I can't cook.
Mrs Williams: No, don't worry. I've already prepared a snack and it's in the fridge. You don't have to cook but you must make sure they eat the snack. And you must help them brush their teeth before bedtime too.
June: OK. You'd better go Mrs Williams. You'll be late.
Mrs Williams: One last thing. You shouldn't panic if they cry - you should just read them a story. Oh, and please remember, you must call me if you have any problems. I'll write my number ... Let me just find a pen …
