Exam Test 1
Track 11
Well, so that was the news service. And now... as far as the weather tomorrow goes, you need to be prepared for a change. The temperatures throughout the whole country will drop by 12 degrees Fahrenheit or so. The warmest place will be San Francisco with 52 degrees. I can hear you say: that's not warm at all. There will be some showers. Yes, Californians, say bye to your clear sky. The temperature will be 45 in Chicago, again rain possible. Sorry, don't blame me for the change. Now, New York City will become really chilly, yeah, really chilly with only 38 degrees. But at least they won't get any rain. So, people from the Big Apple, tomorrow you can leave your umbrellas at home but put on something that will keep you warm.
Track 12
Speaker 1
I don't know why this is so but I only like to watch really exciting films. I mean I like it when there's danger and uncertainty, some conspiracy, tricks and traps, and you don't know if every character will survive the next fifteen minutes. That's funny because I am a very calm person actually. I'm also romantic but love on screen doesn't appeal to me. Romantic comedies make me yawn.
Speaker 2
When I was a boy, I loved films about green aliens coming to the Earth and similar stuff. But now I've changed. What I really adore is the tradition of the Wild West. All those cowboys, Indians, bad guys with revolvers standing against the good guys. I'm now thinking of buying a five-DVD set with all the episodes …
Speaker 3
It's easiest for me to say what films I don't like: thrillers and westerns. They're a waste of time. Of the other types I must say I really like the ... what d'you call them? You know, the ones like Star Trek. I used to be a Star Trek fan as a teenager. When you have people travelling to other worlds, meeting alien races, you know. That's something for me. But other genres are OK as well.
Track 13
Dialogue 1
A: Have you finished?
B: Mmm. Almost.
A: We must get back in a minute. So, what do you think of the show?
B: Nice. That teacher is so nasty.
A: Well, he's meant to be like that. But in the whole play he turns out to be a positive character.
B: Uh-huh. OK, let's go. We'll still have to squeeze past this elderly couple to get to our seats.
A: Yeah.
Dialogue 2
A: Oh, is everything ok, Julie? You don't look well.
B: That's because I have a terrible toothache. I can't eat anything.
A: You should definitely see a dentist.
B: I know. I called my dentist when the pain started and I arranged a visit.
A: And it didn't help?
B: No. I'm not seeing her until this evening. That was the earliest time available.
A: I see.
Dialogue 3
A: Alright. I see. I understand. Well, thank you anyway, madam. Goodbye, madam.
I don't think we'll be able to see it this Saturday.
B: All the tickets already sold out?
A: Yeah, it's seems everyone, really everyone wants to go there.
B: Well, it's only the second weekend they're playing it. We could see it later.
A: Wait! It was just one ticketing company.
B: Do you think the other ones will still have something?
A: Maybe. Let's try.
Dialogue 4
A: Hmm. Black coffee. Reminds me of high school days. It was a very special time for me.
B: Oh really?
A: My family moved to another state. I found myself in a completely new place, but it was fascinating. I made great friends there. I'm still in touch with a few of them.
B: That's nice.
A: And I liked the teachers. They were very friendly and helpful. They were the best ones I could imagine.
B: I see. Want another cup?
A: Yes, please. It tastes great.
