Test 1
Recording 1
In these days of satellite and online TV, mobile phones with internet access and MP3 players holding hundreds of songs, is there any place in our lives for the radio? Surprisingly, perhaps, the answer is yes. More and more people are listening to radio programmes, either on their radio sets or online. Why is this? One reason is the growing number of phone-in shows, where listeners are allowed to share their opinions on the air with others. Another is that, as TV channels fill up with more and more reality shows and quizzes, people are finding that the radio is where you can find more interesting and intellectual programmes such as political discussions and plays.

Paolo: We will be in London soon. What do you want to see first?
Marta: Here's the map. Let's go to Buckingham Palace first.
Paolo: How can we get there from the station? By taxi or by bus?
Marta: We can walk. Then we walk through the park to Big Ben.
Paolo: Great. You can take my photo in front of Big Ben. But I really want to see the London Eye.
Marta: Me too. Don't worry. It's just across the river from Big Ben. Look.
Paolo: Oh yes. Everything is easy to get to. Can we walk to Tower Bridge?
Marta: No. That's a bit too far. But we can get a boat from the Eye.
Paolo: How much is that?
Marta: A return ticket is £10.
Paolo: That's OK. Great. We're going to have a good day.

He's a lovely animal and he's much friendlier than the cat I had before, but sometimes he can be difficult to look after. The worst time is early on cold, windy, winter days when he wants to go out for a walk. He comes into the bedroom and wags his tail and I have to get up and take him out.

Sometimes she's very friendly and jumps onto my bed or chair. At other times she doesn't come anywhere near me. She even stays out at night. I think she catches mice in the garden. The only way I can get her back in is to put down a saucer of milk for her in the kitchen.

He's very friendly and we let him out as much as possible. Dad isn't very happy because he eats his flowers and vegetables in the garden but he loves to be outside. He can't escape from our garden. I love his long ears and the way he moves his back leg when he's happy. He is huge - from a distance he looks like a small dog sitting in the grass!
