The building is sited on the main square of a new mixed-use development in the south-eastern suburb of Potsdam, near Berlin. Rob Krier, who designed the original master plan, envisaged designs by a number of different architects for each portion of the development.

SOM’s design incorporatcs office and residential components, and includes an underground parking garage and retail facilities for building rcsidcnts, ofTice workers, and neighborhood residents.

The design of the building complies with the established master plan guidelines. Features such as overall heights and roof slopes respond to the scalę and architectural features of adjacent buildings. The simplicity of these building forms requires the use of a reduced palette of materials dominatcd by stucco finishes. A prominent tower completes the view at the end of the main south-north axis.
