Bobble buttons

Work the fabnc shape m ihe same way as the covered buttons. Run a gathenng thread around the edge. puli up and stuff firmły with toy stuffing. Gather up tightły and secure the end of the thread

Dorset thread buttons

These buttons are worked m yam around a metal or plastic nng. The ring is covered with doscly worked blanket stitch (see page 84) and weaving through Crossing spokes fills the centrę.

Usc sport (4pły) yam. crochct thread or ombroidery threads to make the buttons m one cok>ur or m a difforcnt cofour for each stage The button i$ attached by workmg stitches through the centre at the back.

1 Thread a tapestry necdle with a long length of yam. and work blanket stitch around the nng, covenng the end of the yam with the first few stitches to secure it Make surę the stitches lie close

2    Put the nng on to a piece of paper and diyide it mto six sections by plac mg a mark opposrte the last stitch worked and spacmg another four marks evenly around the nng. Starting at the last stitch worked. where the thread is still jomed. rmmber the marks from I to 6. Make a spoke by takmg the thread across the centre of the nng to 4 and msertmg the needle mto the honzontal loop from front to back. Take the thread across the back of the nng to S and insert the needle from back to front Take the thread across the nng to 2 and insert it from front to back. Take the thread up at

3    and then down at 6 for the finał spoke.

3 Bnng the yam at the back of the nng to the centre where the spokes mcet. Work a smali cross to bind them together. Workmg dockwise. take the needle under the first two spokes. back ovcr the second spoke and then under the second and third spokes. forming a smali backstitch on the second spoke.Take the needle under the thrd and fourth. then under the fourth and fifth and so on.
