To conceal the ends of a knot
Hide the two ends by 'weaving' or running them alongside; the shuttle thread so that they are hidden inside a few double stitches. This should be done at the beginning of a ring or chain.
If the ends in ąuestion are short, the manoeuvre can be morę easily
achieved by using a hook to puli both ends through each half stitch before the latter is positioned and tightened.
When it is feasible to plan the join well in advance, some tatters prefer to leave longer ends, and thread them, together, through a needle, which is then slipped through each half stitch as required.
Alternatively, each end can be treated separately, running one into a chain, and the other into a ring, although of course this involves twice as much work.
