CHAFTER 2 • SALT DOUGH
The morę time you spend painting your model, the better the result will be. If you smudge the paint. use a damp cotton bud *o erase the smudge immediateiy. Allow penty of time for the paint to dry before .armshing over it.
You can colour salt dough by adding paint to the raw dough, but you won't be able to bakę the dough afterwards, or rather, if you do you will find that the colours turn very dark. Coloured salt dough should be air-dried so that the colours stay fresh and bright.
Varnishing
Salt dough is extremely vulnerable to moisture, so it is essential to apply at least two coats of elear gloss oil-based polyurethane varnish. Yacht varnish is a strong sealant which can be used on larger models. Make surę you cover all the smali nooks and crannies. Keep a brush solely for varnishing and always clean it afterwards in white spirit (minerał spirit), turpentine or a turpentine substitute.
