MATERIALS:

Glossy cjuality crochet colton (or use fil d'Ecosse), size 20. white, about 570 yds. Steel crochet hook US size 6 (1.50 mm) or SIZE FOR GAUGE.

TO MAKE:

Ch 16 and join with sl st in first ch of ch-16 to form ring. RND Replacing first dc of first cluster with 3 ch throughout, work * 3-dc cluster <cl> (= leaving last Ip of each st on hook, work 3 dc in beg ring or in corresp ch lp. yo and draw thru all 4 Ips on hook). 3 ch, rep from * 1 lx morę; up to md 23, join each md with sl st in top of first cl and. up to md 22. slipstitch to first ch lp. RNDS 2-23: Work following pat diagram, altemate cis and ch Ips as shown. At end of md 23. cut thread (= black wedge). RND 24: RS facing. attach thread with sl st in prev ch lp (see white wedge). Work first upside-down "Y" thus: 4 ch, I tr in next ch-3 lp and 4 ch: cont with next upside-down "Y" thus: yo 4x, insert hook in next ch-3 lp, yo and puli up lp. work *yo and

draw thru 2 Ips on hook* 2x, leav-ing last lp on hook work 1 tr in next picnted cli lp. yo and work off Ips on hook 2 by 2: for all subse-quent clusters <cl> of 2 upside-down "Y's" work thus: ** yo 4x. insert hook in corresp st, yo and puli up lp, work *yo and draw thru 2 Ips on hook 2x. leaving last lp of st on hook work 1 tr in next ch lp. rep from * to * 5x, rep from ** lx. yo and draw thru all 3 Ips on hook. Bet each 2-upside-down "Y" cis work 22 ch as shown. RND 25: Work 11 ch, 1 sc in ch-22 lp below, 10 ch. 1 sl st in top of next upside-down "Y" cl, rep from * around: join this md with 1 sl st as shown and fasten off (= black wedge).
