Notes on Electronic Edition

Th

is edition is based on the printed edition published by Philipp Rec-

lam jun., Leipzig in 1887.

All direct problems and selfmates have been computer tested using

Matthieu Leschemelle’s computer program Problemiste. Th

e studies

have been manually tested using Fritz 6 with the Nalimov endgame
database. Th

e conditional problems, however, have only been checked

for obvious errors.

Problems without a solution have been indicated with [†] after the

stipulation, problems with short solutions with [§], and problems with
multiple solutions with [*], and an indication of the problem given af-
ter the (original) solution. Important errors discovered in the original
solutions have been added in brackets; obvious misprints have been
silently corrected.

Solutions have also been changed from long to short algebraic form,

and slightly expanded in cases where the extremely contracted soluti-
ons of the original seemed excessive. Lines not present in the original
solutions have not been added.

Vorrede

darunder viele in Turnieren preisgekrönte.

borener Deutscher).

in England Laws, Slater, Studd, Planck, Rayner, in Amerika namentlich

A. F. Mackenzie.
