Responsibilities

The Fleet Manager, the management staff on board and the trainers are responsible for the organisation, implementation and documentation of training courses.

5.

Description of Routines

5.1

Identifying Training Needs

  • All staff who manage and supervise other staff are engaged in an on-going dialogue with their subordinates, whereby training contents are continually passed on and the

  • employees level of qualification increased (training on the job).

  • Appointment of new staff, changes to existing regulations or new ones coming into force, commissioning of new types of system, changes of business operations, audit results, corrective measures, etc. equally require training. These training needs will be identified short-term.

5.2

Provision of Training (Courses)

  • Training courses can be carried out externally or in-house.

  • Staff will be sent to external training courses, where the training centre is established, and issues recognised certificates and where the training goal cannot be reached by in-house training measures

  • In-House training courses will be carried out by in-house and external trainers. Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG ensures that that the trainer's level of qualification is commensurate with the course content.

5.3

Training Record Book

All deck and engine room staff, who have not yet completed their apprenticeship, keep a Training Record Book. This applies to staff who are in an initial training phase, as well as staff seeking a further qualification e.g. licence or higher licence, or after attaining more experience could and should be promoted.

The staff member himself is responsible for obtaining and keeping the Training Record Book. Where there is no standardised model, a firmly bound notebook with consecutively numbered pages is sufficient, in which the staff member enters all activities which are necessary for the attainment of the higher qualification daily. The Training Record Book will be presented for signature to the Master monthly and on signing off. It remains with the staff member.

Shipboard staff, who are apprentices of Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG (ships mechanics - apprentices, cadets, etc.), receive the Training Record Book, which on German ships can also be the "Berichtsheft", from Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG . As far as possible, use will be made of those available in the market place.
