Design/Completion 1987/1989 Long Island City, New York, USA Citicorp at Court Square 1,400,000 square feet Steel
Glass and metal curtain wali
On a direct axis with the midtown Manhattan Citicorp headquarters building, the building is placed on a two-acre site bounded by wide streets and smali parks, a landmarked residendal błock, and a historie courthouse. The 50-story tower, with its curtain wali of glass spandrels enclosing pale green metal panels, features graduated corner setbacks at the highest floors, and is a defining element of the Long Island City skyline.
A low-rise building adjacent to the tower houses ancillary services and retail space, while a seven-story glass-enclosed rotunda is the focal point for the entrance plaża, two subway stations, and the pedestrian concourse entrance.
The design for this “intelligent building” incorporates computerized building management systems for life safety, security, HVAC, and energy savings. Easy-access raised flooring throughout all office space permits the rapid installation and renovation of power, telephone, and Computer signal needs.
