Using Coats Chain Mercer Crochet No. 20, the braid measures 2 cm (% in) in width, and will ease to a curve.

This design is worked entirely in chains, one advantage being that the shuttle sel-dom needs refilling. See KNOW-HOW 3 (p. 15) for starting with a chain.

Start at A with a false picot, 5ds, p, 7ds, p, 12 ds, join shuttle thread to false picot in order to form a false ring; rw. Continue in chains from the diagram, reversing work after every false ring. Ali joins are shuttle-thread joins, with the exception of those between E and H, H and I, I and J, and J and A, which are normal joins.
