Goal of the course/module
Course reguirements
The goal of this course is to introduce topics that may be used to identify and understand the primary processes taking place within the banking system
The student understands the basie functionality of financial institutions, has an ability to analyse basie processes taking place in the financial sector, understands the need for the continuous study process

1. The structure and changes within the modern banking system. Ownership changes. Regulatory framework. The roleand types of banks. The role of banking Systems in modern economies.
2. The banking system and the financial safety net. Banking supen/ision and deposit insurance systems. Morał hazard problems.
3. Central banks. Monetary policy; tools and contemporary challenges; monetary transmission
mecanism._
4. Assets and liabilities management in banking. Bank risk - credit risk, liquidity risk, market risk and operational risk,
5. Bank Capital, Capital adeguacy, Basie I, II and III agreements.
Securitisation of bank assets, MBS, ABS and Pfandbriefe. Toxic assets. The roots and
implications of financial crises and financial crisis of 2007-2009._
