UNIT 05: TRANSFER WRITTEN INFORMATION FROM ENGLISH INTO ANOTHER LANGUAGE PUBLIC SERN/ICES (Y/503/1922)

CANDIDATE’S BRIEF:
You are a bilingual assistant attached to a school. You have been asked by a headmaster to write a notę to a Polish-speaking parent. The parent has complained about her child being mugged and having his mobile phone stolen in an underpass (= a tunnel under a main road) which children have to walk through on the way to school.
Your task is to write a letter in Polish, using the notes betów. Be as concise as possible, but make surę that you include ALL the information. Please notę you are not required to provide any address details for your letter, but must ensure you use the appropriate salutations.
The letter should be written in complete sentences, without use of bullet points, using the following information:
HEADMASTER’S NOTES
1) Very sorry to hear of incident. Not only complaint this term.
2) Police, who were called by the school when child reported incident, identified older pupil responsible for the theft due to good description given by the victim. Phone has been returned, undamaged.
3) Underpass known to be hazardous - used by many pupils, but plans for it include:
In the short term:
• Better lighting.
• An adult supervising underpass at peak times, 8.00 - 9.00 am and 3.30 - 4.30 pm. Possibly use retired school porter who would welcome part time work.
In the longerterm:
• Pressure on council to proceed with plans suggested two years ago for proper footbridge over the road.
• Further representations to suggest that children under 13 should all qualify for free bus passes to take the bus right into the school grounds; only pupils living morę than 3 miles from school are offered this currently.
