ENGLISH-SPEAKING EXAMINER’S/INTERLOCUTOR’S BRIEF
Please read łhis task brief as well as the candidałe's brief and the bńef of the Polish-speaking Examiner/lnter1ocutor. You will play the role of a Training Manager at a local Council. The pa rent of a young person has come to the Council offices to get morę Information about a work based scheme for young people with a disability. Because the parent has poor English you have asked a bilingual assistant (the candidate) to be present to help you communicate with the parent (played by the Polish Examiner/lnterlocutor). As well as playing the role of Training Manager you will ALSO assess the candidate's report-back skills in English at Stage 3.
To start off the role play, you will introduce the parent (the Polish Examiner/lnterlocutor) to the bilingual assistant (the candidate) and ask the assistant to find out about the parenfs concerns.
Candidate’s Stage 1: You will be hearing the parent start by listing his/her questions and concems. The candidate will be listening to the 6 concems and writing them down to convey to you in Stage 2.
In Stage 2: The candidate will relay to you in English the parenfs 6 concerns. If the candidate hesitates, aromat him/her to tell you about the parenfs concems. Your task is to assess the candidate's report-back skills.
In Stage 3: You will then comment on the 6 questions/concerns one by one so that the candidate can notę down the main points and relay these back to the parent. You must allow time for this. However, bearing in mind that Unit 01 must be completed within 15 - 20 minutes, do not allow too much time. S/he may ask for repetition and/or clarification. The candidate will then relay these responses back to the parent in Polish.
The grid on the next page (left-hand column) shows what the candidate has to report back in Stage 2 to get a minimum of 4 marks in Section 1 of the marksheet. It also indicates the comments you will make (right-hand column).
