POLISH-SPEAKING EXAMINER’S/INTERLOCUTOR’S BRIEF
Please read this łask brief as well as the candidate’s brief and the brief of the English Examiner/ Interlocutor. You will play the role of a parent. You have come to the Council offices to talk to a Training Manager about a work based training programme which you think might suit your disabled daughter. You have a number of questions and concems to put to the Training Manager. As your spoken English is poor the Council have provided a bilingual assistant who speaks your language (played by the candidate) to help you communicate with the Training Manager, and who will convey Information backwards and forwards during the discussion. You will ALSO assess the candidate's report-back skills in Polish in Stage 3.
After the initial introduction through the Training Manager, the candidate will start the dialogue.
In Stage 1: Explain that you are a Polish-speaking parent who has reguested a meeting with the Training Manager to talk about training opportunities for your daughter.
You will list your questions/concerns as shown in the left-hand column of the table on the next page. The candidate is required to listen to them and notę down the main points. You must allow time for this. S/he may ask for repetition and/or clahfication. However, bearing in mind that Unit 01 must be completed within 15-20 minutes, do not allow too much time. When listing your concerns/questions ensure they are articulated separately, so there is no overlap in the candidate’s mind, eg I have a number of concerns - 1, 2, 3 etc. The right-hand column shows what the candidate has to report back in Stage 3 to get a minimum of 4 marks in Section 1 of the marksheet. In Stage 2: The candidate will be relaying your 6 concerns to the Training Manager in English. While the Training Manager is responding to the 6 points, the candidate will be writing down the 6 responses madę by the Training Manager.
Stage 3: The candidate reports back to you in Polish the 6 responses madę by the Training Manager. The right hand column shows what the candidate has to report back in Stage 3 to get a minimum of 4 marks in Section 1 of the mark sheet (see the Stage 2 grid in the English Examiner/lnterlocutorJs materiał for the fuli English text).
