I will talk about electric vehicle

Global warming, dependence on foreign oil, and the high price of gasoline make people think

about alternative fuels for the cars of the future. While there are many potential new fuels out there,
one of the most researched and most promising is simple electricity.

Automakers have already started experimenting with electric vehicles. Electric vehicles have

three basic parts: the batteries, which are the power source for the car; the motor, which converts
the power into useable energy that can turn the wheels; and the controller, which works like a big
dimmer switch to regulate the electricity.

To refuel an electric vehicle (EV), all you need is an electrical outlet. Any standard household

outlet will do, but an outlet with higher voltage will do the job faster. Some cities, like Portland, Ore.,
are installing curbside charging units so that current and future EVs will be able to top off their
batteries themselves while their owners work or run errands.

The EVs available today can't yet replace all the gasoline-powered cars and trucks on the

road. EV speeds are usually low, about 35 miles per hour (56 kilometers per hour). Most EVs can
travel about 40 miles (64 kilometers) per charge, which is roughly the same distance as the average
daily American commutes. The cars can charge overnight at a regular outlet or in a few hours at a
higher-voltage outlet. They also have zero emissions, and this is very important advantage.

Most of the advances being made in EVs are in battery technology and design. Lead-acid

batteries were used for decades even in the early 1990s, when EVs first became popular. However,
lead-acid batteries don't get people as far as we'd like, or as quickly. Professional labs are constantly
working to improve EVs for modern consumers.

Electric cars are something that shows up in the news all the time. There are several reasons

for the continuing interest in these vehicles:

Electric cars create less pollution than gasoline-powered cars, so they are an environmentally

friendly alternative to gasoline-powered vehicles (especially in cities).

Any news story about hybrid cars usually talks about electric cars as well.

Vehicles powered by fuel cells are electric cars, and fuel cells are getting a lot of attention right now
in the news.

An electric car is a car powered by an electric motor rather than a gasoline engine.

From the outside, you would probably have no idea that a car is electric. In most cases,

electric cars are created by converting a gasoline-powered car, and in that case it is impossible to tell.
When you drive an electric car, often the only thing that clues you in to its true nature is the fact that
it is nearly silent. This is the second advantage.

Under the hood, there are a lot of differences between gasoline and electric cars:

The gasoline engine is replaced by an electric motor.

The electric motor gets its power from a controller.

The controller gets its power from an array of rechargeable batteries.

A gasoline engine, with its fuel lines, exhaust pipes, coolant hoses and intake manifold, tends

to look like a plumbing project. An electric car is definitely a wiring project.

In order to get a feeling for how electric cars work in general, let's start by looking at a typical

electric car to see how it comes together.

Summarizing

Electric cars have advantages:

They also have zero emissions

They are very silent when you drive them.

In my opinion they have disadvantages.

Generally, at the moment the future of automotive is electricity and hydrogen. With the

development of technology cars of this type will probably be available for all of us.
