Manage Quiet Periods
How to…
What you need to know
•
Between your units peak periods there will be times when your unit is not busy
•
Keeping active during quiet periods will make your shift go faster and stop boredom
•
Don’t take your foot off the pedal just because there is no one in the unit
•
You are a team member – Remember!
•
Never leave the unit unattended
•
This is the best time to check levels and make sure you are ready for the next shift
and we have the correct amount of products
How we do it…
•
Learn something new
•
Help other team members with their tasks
•
Talk to your customers
•
Clean something. Check the cleaning record
•
Tidy up
•
Stock up
•
Check your displays are still following planagrams e.g. full, pulled forward, tidy
•
Fill up disposables and check till rolls
•
Read the communications board and find out how well the unit is performing
•
There is ALWAYS something to do
•
Check your prep levels, don’t leave yourselves short or prep too much
•
Check for shelf lives and push to sell through in the next session
•
Take note of items that haven’t been sold
•
Check display levels, do we have too much on display
•
Remember if we waste products we are wasting money
•
Ask your shift runner if there is anything they would like you to do
You are responsible for…
• Not waiting to be told to do something
• Keeping yourself busy
• Keeping up to date on policies
and procedures
• Remembering the customer comes first
even if you are busy with something else
• Helping customers and team members
• Staying focussed even when the
unit is quiet
• Being observant
• Reading the How To…. Refresher cards
Your challenge…
• Make a list of all the tasks that could
be completed in 5 minutes or less
• Every time the unit is quiet, do something
to help the unit, a customer or your team.
