Getting to know you
Activity Individual/mingle
Aim Students practise using gerunds and infinitives in a speaking
activity.
Time 20 minutes
Number of students Any
Before class Photocopy enough worksheets for each student in the class.
Procedure
1 Give every student a worksheet and ask them to circle the correct form of the verb
in each of the sentences. Check the answers to the activity.

2 Students stand up and move around the classroom asking each other questions.
Check that they can formulate each of the questions accurately. Give an example
of the activity if necessary ( Are you afraid of flying? elicits two possible responses:
 Yes  questioner writes the name of the classmate who responds positively  or
 No  questioner moves on to next classmate). Monitor the activity and make a
note of any language errors. When they have finished the activity, check the
answers with the class by asking them for some of the information they found out.
Write any gerund/infinitive errors you heard the class making on the board and ask
the students to correct them.
