Responsibilities

The Cargo Officer is responsible for organising and supervising handling and supervision of cargo during a voyage. Designated crew members are responsible for its actual handling and supervision.

5.

Description of Routines

5.1

General

Where weather conditions allow, the cargo is inspected regularly (every day) during a voyage. In particular this entails inspecting the cargo if it has moved or slipped out of place.

Entering the cargo holds only take place by order and by adhering strictly to all necessary safety measures.

The cargo holds are checked for wetness, e.g. caused by untight hatch covers, cargo hold bilges are kept dry. Holds are ventilated or kept under hermetic seal, if need be. The smoke detection plant should be turned on and checks kept on these.

If required by the nature of the cargo and/or by the shipper, measurements (temperature, humidity, gas contents, etc.) are taken inside the holds or of the cargo and recorded.

Charterers' Special Instructions should be adhered to.

5.2

Special Cargo

Special cargo requiring exceptional treatment is only carried when the necessary instructions have been issued for this and such transport can actually be undertaken on board the respective vessel. Handling and supervision of this type of cargo is then carried out in compliance with the special instructions issued.
