Standing Orders, Night Orders

Purpose |

|
Clear, unequivocal and easy-to-follow orders are the basis for activities which should be carried out under controlled conditions. Controlled conditions reduce risks and increase ship's safety.
|

This Documented Procedure applies to the Shorebased Organisation and on all ships managed / operated by Schiffahrtskontor tom Wörden GmbH & Co. KG.

Responsibilities |
||||
|
Any member of staff who gives orders to others is to do this in a clear and unequivocal fashion. The Shorebased Organisation and Shipboard Management are responsible for issuing Standing Orders, while Masters and Chief Engineers are mainly responsible for the issuing of Watch Orders.
|

Description of Routines |
5.1 |
Issuing of Verbal Orders |
|
Verbal Orders are to be given in easily understandable form to the recipient. They are to be clearly and correctly expressed and repeated if necessary. The recipient is to ask for clarification if he has not understood the order.
|

This applies both to general ship operation and in particular to the issuing of orders concerning the Watch (e.g. Rudder Commands, Mooring Commands etc.).

5.2 |
Standing Orders |
|
Standing Orders are always to be issued in writing. They are to be found, for example, in the:

Standing Orders are to be signed by the author. These orders are to be obeyed.
|
|
New issues / Amendments / Cancellations of Standing Orders are always to be appropriately publicised among members of staff affected.
|
5.3 |
Watch Orders, Night Orders |
|
A Watch Order Book is to be kept on all ships on the bridge and in the engine room.
|
|
Masters' and Chief Engineers' orders are to be entered in the Watch Order Book. Such entries can be Standing Orders generally relating to the Watch or orders relating to a specific watch. These orders are to be obeyed.
|
|
Watch Orders are to be signed by the author.
|
|
The Officers / Engineers on duty are to inform themselves at the start of their Watch about the contents of the Watch Order Book and countersign new orders after taking note of them.
